2 Cats, 2 continents, 3 rolling litter boxes
treasure hunting in the cat box is so tedious, smelly and difficult, we once put our son on box cleaning as punishment for neglecting his schoolwork. My husband found this litter box in the US, in a large size, and we have happily been using it for over 4 years. We have 2, one in use and the other in cleaning or stand-by. I didn't put one of them in our airfreight for our year in London. I had been led to believe our flat had 3 baths and was planning on using box in 3rd bath. So, arrived, couldn't find that 3rd bath. Had to put litter tray, the open kind, in main living area. I don't want to see or smell what the cats leave in the box and I was getting both, and way too close to where I was eating. I found this rolling box on Amazon UK, not realizing it was smaller than our US versions and ordered it. Husband thinks smaller fits better anyway, just need to roll it more often. I highly recommend Litter Purrfect brand litter to use in it. We can go about a month, rolling and adding litter as needed between box cleaning. The box has a screen on the side, roll box towards handle and clean litter falls through screen whilst dirty bits stay on top, continue rolling it towards handle, to upside down, and the dirty litter falls into a removable tray. Pull out the tray and dump into garbage. In US, I'd pick a carrier bag, check it for holes, dump tray and then put in our large outdoor wheelie bin. Roll box back to right side up and past to get litter back into cats' part of box. A few cons, but not insurmountable: the plastic tabs that hold the top & bottom together tend to fail after long use. Replace with metal bolts and wingnuts. As the tabs fail, litter will spill from the back. Make sure the parts fit together tightly and tape the removable tray side edges with masking tape to keep litter in. If your cat doesn't care for a covered box, he probably won't like the Omega. I think it's the perfect litter box, sorts out the nasty bits on its own, hides them from sight and a quick dump of the tray into a bag (no holes or you'll trail cat litter across the floor!), add litter as necessary and clean occasionally. notes after returning from London: -use the finest grained CLUMPING litter only. If you can get to a Costco, Litter Purrfect clumps hard & fast, even the wetter poo. The disastrous week or two in London using large grained litter in a lined, open tray resulted in the liner being coated in a smelly urine sludge that would not scoop out. Good litter was hard to find, Sainsburys had a good but expensive brand and not always in stock. -the large box is best for adult cats and I would get one even larger if it was made. -to clean, we take it outside, take it apart, dump used litter in heavy duty bin liner and spray all parts with spray bleach. Let sit. Hose off and/or add more bleach & let it soak. Hose off well. All the stuck on bits go away, no scrubbing. Let air dry. Best to have another box for cleaning unless you want to do it all in one go and wipe it dry. -it is a bit fiddly to put together sometimes, but I have rheumatoid & even my hands can get the job done. -taping is _crucial_ duct, masking, something unique to UK but tape the seams. -bang on the bottom of box when rolling to dislodge any stuck on clumps and prevent a mountain of wee & litter - one of my cats likes to wee in the exact same spot. I'm sure the guys in the flat beneath ours wondered about the thumping at midnight. -highly recommend

Not without its problems
The idea is great makes an horrible job a little less unpleasant I really couldn't go back to a rack and shovel. You need to experiment with different types of clumping litter as some can be very stubborn and will just stick to the bottom, tried sainsburys, pets at home and various branded all didn't work too well, Tescos clumping has been by far the best where the others fail with this system Tescos seems to stick far less aggressively to bottom. Why one star? The construction is weak, the design problem lays with the sifting part, the sifting piece is a one part affair that folds to form a right angle in the inside of the box. I say folds because that exactly what it does, no hinge just ultra thin score in the one piece sifting part. As you can imagine you will need to regularly clean the box and its inners. Over the space of the 3 months I've had it the score in the folding siv is slowly turning into a detachment you can clearly see the stressed plastic in my photo. The catches are weak, you have three of them to keep the top bolted to bottom. To sum up Pros Great concept Good removal of waste providing it doesn't get stuck Cons Weak design it will not last long. Rubbish brittle plastic. You need to experiment with brands of litter To expensive for a throwaway litter box Weak catches ****Update**** Amazon customer service first class no fuss, replaced my broken litter box. Thank you Amazon.

Much easier and much less smell than a traditional tray!
I have tried both open and flap trays/boxes in the past. I currently have a little kitten who is able to hop in and out of this easily. He's about 10 weeks old now. Catsan clumping litter works great with this tray. It clumps the waste and after you've turned it over, you just pull out a drawer and bag it/whatever you normally do with your cat's waste. There is no smell off this tray even though it doesn't have a flap or carbon filters. I'd just say - remember to top up the litter as the clumping litter means it does go down a bit when you empty it and kitties do like to dig around. I just tilt it back and tip some extra in. Some of the other reviews say it is poorly made but I disagree. It's about the same as any other moulded plastic product. I can't see any problems with the plastic locks if you make sure they're fully back before you take the top off. Just be careful with it as you would with anything made of plastic. Also, I'd say it's very easy to clean. I like to use disinfectant wipes once a week for a full clean. Make sure you let it dry or wipe it dry before you put more clumping litter in or it will stick to the dampness! Overall, I think this is a really good product - I've had 4 cats over the years and have tried lots of different styles of tray/box etc. I like this the best and living in a 2 bed apartment I can't afford for there to be any smell. UPDATE: This has been in use a month now. Really easy to deal with, still no smell even though my cat is some sort of poo machine! No quality problems - all locks intact. Really pleased with it. UPDATE FEB 2016: Box is still going strong, has been in constant use since purchase. The quality is great, all locks still intact etc. no parts have failed :-)

It saves a lot of time to be honest, I can clean litter in like 20 seconds now. So it is recommendable. The only area of improvement is that there isnt any place for ventilation.. so for hygiene you will need to wash the box once a month or it starts to smell. Over all good product, very convenient.

For anyone trying to decide on whether or not to buy this, here is my opinion. We unexpectedly went from zero to 4 cats in 2 years. Each one being a sickly stray kitten we saved and decided not to re-home. This is home. Now, all grown up, I had 3 LARGE litter boxes that were impossible to keep clean. (I could be scooping and the cats would hop right in and do their business on the other side.) These boxes are thin plastic, so use common sense when handling them. They have a much smaller area for the cats to use, but for as easy as they are to clean, no prob Bob. I sprayed some non stick cooking oil on the bottom, poured the litter, and presto. Morning and night we just roll em up on their tops, shake a little, and back. Empty the tray and done! I'm about to buy 2 more for other areas of the house, no one would even guess it's a litter box from the looks of it, kinda nice. Basically, don't abuse it, it's not meant to be spun like a bowling ball, and they seem to work quite well. Definitely, hands down easier to keep clean.

Product itself is great. Plastic clips are a bit fiddly to close at some points as the plastic covers are easily moved out of place Over all handy and effective
