Gong Yoga

Liked the book very much but I returned it because I don't own the type of gong the book instructs on. However, the quality of the book for the price is excellent! Om Shanti!!

I discovered the powerful, hypnotic and suprisingly varied sounds of the gong recently. I was hooked and bought one myself. Although much of gong playing is intuitive and naturally learned through experimentation, I wanted to learn all I could about this mysterious instrument. Information on how to play the gong and the spiritual aspects of the sound of the gong are difficult to find. This book is a wonderful introduction to all aspects of the gong and the yoga that is associated with it. The interesting history of the gong, its uses in Western and Eastern music, how to play it and the gongs effects on the body's energetic system are all discussed.

A very well written book,. Very well explained , If you are wanting to learn. I also highly recommend his double DVD set to fully understand how to play . I am so gratefull for his efforts of putting this together ,. A wonderful way to learn

Well written, interesting and informative. I recently purchased a gong and it answered all of my initial questions about use and care -- even history and benefits of this beautiful healing tool and musical instrument.

I am new to playing the gong, and this book was very helpful. It provided a history as well as practical instruction. Without a teacher, I felt a little lost in the resonance...now, I have a more focused practice that is providing a soothing experience for the listener.

I think this book is among the most complete perspectives on the history and developement ANDuses for the gong. Really an authoritative read. Buy it!

Gong Yoga is a very well written informative book.The author gives you a brief history on the gong and describes its applications in the practice of yoga as well as meditational and healing uses. The instructional portion of the book is well laid out so beginners can follow along easily.

Great book for the beginner gong player.

Despite amazon listing this book as 120 pages and another listing of this book on amazon suggesting it is a revised, expanded second edition, it is not. It has the same page count (103pp)as the original and is just a reprint of the original edition by a new publisher. I know as I ordered this and compared it to the original book I own. Still a five star book though!Those wanting to go deeper into the gong should check out Don Conreaux's gong publications and website. He was one of the first five student teachers taught by Yogi Bhajan in L.A. in '69 and ran one of Yogi's KY ashrams in the seventies. Since then, Don has focused on the gong as his life's work, created the ''Gong Bath'' meditation and has been teaching The Way of the Gong all over the world since the 1980's till now.

An amazingly comprehensive book for its size, very useful to me for integrating the gong into my kundalini yoga classes.

There's a shortage of books about how to approach the gong, and in this case, I mean the Paiste Brilliant Symphonic gong. Im not sure why there is a shortage, in fact this is the ONLY book I could find. One would assume that since gongs are used in symphonies, there would be a well thought out plan on how to approach this musical instrument—like any musical instrument but that doesn't seem to be the case.I sometimes wonder what it would be like, the book, if it had been authored by a music teacher, or a musician studying at the Sorbonne, for example. The style outlined in Gong Yoga is lacking, I cant believe that one would have approached a musical instrument in such a "non-musical" way, without the use of notes, etc., and the language of music, notation, etc. But that said, its the only book i could find and it has served nicely as a primer. But, again, I cant but think that there has to be a book out there that has might offer the novice gong player a bit more.

Ottimo scelta! é un piccolo libro ricco di informazioni, non ripetitivo, chiaro e semplice anche per neofiti. Nella prima parte viene spiegato l'utilizzo di questo strumento nella storia dell'uomo, i benefici che se ne possono trarre, accenni allai terapia vibrazionale. La seconda parte è incentrata sulla tecnica (nozioni base per suonarlo e varie tecniche), come ascquistare un gong, la sua manutenzione e che utilizzo se ne può fare soprattutto durante la pratica dello Yoga.
