Warm!
I purchased the taupe coat first & liked it so well I also got the black. This is an exceptionally warm coat that traps in body heat very well. Length comes down to my knees so it covers my thighs also. The hood is so big & roomy, lined with a soft ff. There are pockets inside & out plus thumb holes on the sleeve cuffs & and inside drawstring at the waist to cinch it in. Really nice looking coat for the price. I wear a 2 & the XS is a perfect fit with room for sweatshirt etc underneath.

Great for cold temperatures
Love this jacket. It is stylish and very warm, good quality materials. It is long and bulky but I live in a place where it doesn't get above freezing temperatures for months so it's perfect. It's been in the negative teens with wind-chill since I got it and I haven't been cold once. I'm 5'3 and it hits just at the knee but I feel like it still looks good, I'm not totally drowning in it because the fit is still good. Pockets are great. I like that the fur is removable for washing.

Upgrading to five stars
This is an extremely sturdy, very warm coat. The length was exactly what I was looking for and the extra-large hood is very stylish. I only wish the pockets were a bit deeper. This coat has only two fairly shallow flap pockets without a zipper and there are no side slash pockets. There are zippers on the sleeves to make room for a sweater underneath, and other elevated details, so it's odd to me they skimped on the pockets. Otherwise I'm very pleased. The coat is super warm and comfortable. ETA - upgrading to 5 stars. Now that it's freezing cold in NYC, this coat is a rock star. It's warm, perfect fit, comfortable, and the hood is worth ten stars. And, it looks great. So glad I have it.

Great coat.
Ok so let’s start off with all the good. I love this coat. The style is just what I was looking for. The length is great. The fit is perfect. I’m usually a large/XL in tops. I got the XL and it fits perfect. Definitely have room to fit a sweater if I needed to without it being tight. The grape color is more of a cranberry, then a purple. Which is exactly what I wanted. It has a bunch of extra pockets, such a bonus for me. And I like the thumb holes in the sleeves. It’s definitely warm and cozy enough to get me through the cold NY winters. The hood is huge and covers everything in bad weather which I like, it’s even lined with a black fur that makes it super warm around your ears and no wind gets in. I just wish the hood were removable since it’s so large it sometimes gets in the way when I’m not wearing it up. But this is totally not a deal breaker as I’d rather an oversized hood then one that’s too small. My one and only real complaint, is that my coat was obviously worn prior to me receiving it. I understand returned items usually are resold in retail. I worked retail for many years. But there were used tissues covered in make up in the pocket and a stain on the lower front of the coat. The items need to getter checked prior to shipping out to a new customer. I really love the coat and it took me all winter and several attempts to find exactly what I was looking for so I’m not going to return it. But I’d hope this isn’t a common error.

Beautiful, well-made coat, perfect for arctic weather and winter photos!
I bought this coat for a trip I was taking to Finland and the Arctic Circle. I searched long and hard for a coat that was both thick and warm, but also bright blue enough that it would look good in photos! Yes, I know it's vain, but I figured I would only go to the Arctic Circle once and I may as well try to look good! ;) Anyway, this coat delivered in all the ways I had hoped. It is extremely heavy (it feels like it weighs 10 pounds when you take it out of the package) but, when you wear it, it doesn't feel too heavy. It was easy to move around in and kept me COMPLETELY warm in the Arctic Circle (I had to take some layers off it was that good). It was a bit tight across the chest but I could still fit several layers underneath and when I was wearing just a sweater it was fine. My only complaint was that the hood when closed is just the tiniest little hole for only your eyes to look out of, and the fur around the hood is a bit too long. However, I mostly had my hood off, and found that when I wore it more loosely, it was fine. I think the tight hood would be useful for snowmobiling or skiing as the wind would not be able to knock the hood back. The coat was fairly water resistant but as you can see from my photo in the rain, it eventually did let water through and when it did it took a LONG time to dry out. However, I would still recommend the coat, it was stylish, durable, and a great value! I had so many people ask me where I had purchased it and as you can see I had a lot of fun doing a photoshoot in it in the Arctic! If I could rate out of 10, I'd give it an 8.5 but since there are only 5 stars I gave it full marks because it's still a great buy!

Great!
Damn! This is a great jacket. Though there were some issues with the order: I ordered a m, l, and xl and waited three weeks to get 3xls in the mail. But no issues with returns. I eventually got a M and it fits perfectly. Be aware, this jacket runs big. I'm 5'7" and 175 lb, waist 34, hips 44, bust 44 ish and the large was too big, medium is just right and with extra room to move in it. If you are thinking you want a bigger size to layer, well, this jacket is HOT. I never layer for more warmth under it, and I live in Vermont. This is the best jacket I've ever owned, it's better than my old down north face. It's just right at extremely cold temps (0-10f degrees tested so far) and actually too warm for me a lot of the time at warmer temps (20-35f), at least when I'm walking briskly. It has a ton of accessories, like practical pockets for skiing and adventuring, soft sweater bands that loop around the wrist and thumbs, adjuatable. my favorite part is the fully attached, suuuper-soft faux-fur lined hood. It's incredibly soft against the skin, warm and is cut in a way that is really technical, like multiple configurations, can be zipped up like a really high end arctic parka to keep you warm, functional and the wind out of your face. This parka is the best, I haven't stopped raving about it since I got it. Get it! And the grape color is really pretty.

Just as warm as goose down, great color!
I chose this parka for a cruelty-free alternative to down parkas. I found Alpine North after doing a google search and spent a couple of days deciding whether or not I wanted to make the purchase. But after receiving and wearing this product, I'm so happy I did. I was used to buying from the Northface and had concerns that a non-down parka wouldn't be as warm. This one is just as warm if not warmer than my old Northface. I ordered the "grape" color in a medium. Normally I'm a small but I wanted something to fit over my big sweaters in the winter. Grape was kind of a departure from my normal style, as I normally choose neutral or black colors for coats, but if you're considering this color, I'd say go for it. I love it. It's not too purple. It's kind of a maroon/wine colored purple. So different than white, black or olive that I'd normally go for. I actually got a compliment on the color of the coat the first couple of days that I wore it. As for size, I'm about 5'2 and the Medium hits below my knees right at my calves. It fits over my heaviest sweaters with room for my arms and doesn't feel too tight. I really like the thumbholes for my hands. And finally the price is great! I spend over $300 on my last Northface parka and it ripped under the arm not too long after I purchased it. This coat was $120 and it feels like it's thicker and higher quality than my old Northface parka. The only two detractors for me: 1- You can't remove the fur trim on the hood, it's permanently attached. 2- And there is no cinchabilty to the waist area of the coat. It goes straight down. If you're looking for some sort of shape, the cut of this parka may not be for you. But, for me the cruelty-free "down", the color, warmth, and price made this a great purchase.

Warm jacket. Quality is questionable for the price.
I ordered this with dark fur and they sent light fur because they ran out. That was annoying. I kept it because I wanted a warm coat and they were sold out. The inseam on the inner arm ripped after a month of wearing. The jacket kept me warm from frigid elements. I give it a 3 star for that. The price of this jacket doubled in a year. I would be hesitant to order again at that price. I will go back to buying Columbia jackets for their great quality.
