The original 24 only included numbers 1-9.  They've added more varieties since.  Double digit means the numbers could range from 1-99 (I haven't had too much time with the double digit version, so I'm not sure how high the numbers can/usually go).  Another version I've seen adds fractions.  I know there are even more varieties.  The main goal I've seen with the different varieties is to adjust the difficulty level.  I don't know an external link that lists each version, but I would suggest verifying what type of math problems you or the person you're buying 24 for is currently learning, then do a Google or Amazon search for "24 card game _____" and see if that shows up a result.  Or you can just search for "24 card game" and scroll through the options.In the end, if they've never tried 24, I would start with the single digit one to get their mind working that way, then branch out.

Yes, they are double sided. The difficulty of each puzzle is denoted by number of dots, and opposite sides are usually differ in difficulty factor.
