Horizontal measure: From the finger elastic on each wing it is 42 inches. Vertical measure: From the lowest part of wing to middle of same wing top it is 22 inches.

What material are the wings made out of?

It is very light transparent fabric but durable and strong. My kids are tough with their dress ups and these wings remain intact so while the fabric may look delicate it is anything but ..

Will it fit an 8 year old?

My daughter is almost 8, and still likes to wear it. She is a small eight year old, wears size 7, but it is elastic, so it stretches.

my daughter will be dancing as a butterfly in a talent show with elegant movements. are the wings soft enough and would not be in her way of dancing?

They are very soft and flowy, my daughter loves to dance around and have them flow behind her. There is a little elastic thumb hook on the end of the wing that easily holds the wings in place. I very pleased with this product.
