great knife
Great knife overall but required a fix: The knife was impossible to close with one hand because the liner lock spring is way too strong. I disassembled the knife. Bent the liner lock spring with my fingers but that was not enough. I put the spring in a vice and carefully bent it. Reassembled the knife (requires two torx screwdrivers and lots of patience) and now it works flawlessly, opens and closes with one hand just as it should. Earlier, I also polished the back of the blade where it touches the lock with very fine (black) wet-dry sand paper; that also makes closing slicker. As for the blade, it came fairly sharp and I only touched it up on a fine ceramic; slices a sheet of paper just fine but I haven't done any serious cutting yet. The edge has a decent angle, not too steep. The belly is flat-ground. Feels like a strong blade despite its slim profile. Very sharp point. Well balanced knife. Handle is very comfortable. I give it 5 stars even though I had to do a fairly big fix, but considering the price, on balance, 5 stars.

Luzon Medium, takes a little work
Like me start off by saying that I also own the Luzon XL, which I consider an excellent knife. It came stupid sharp out of the box, it opens easily both with the thumb tab and as a flipper. The lockup is positive and solid. The liner lock is easy to access and easy to manipulate. I found it lightweight, well balanced and a joy to use. For a "budget knife" it's a well made beastie. Now on to the Luzon Medium. At first glance it looks like Cold Steel tried to make a scaled down version of the Luzon XL. Operative word is "tried". They failed miserably. True, the edge is stupid sharp and it is a good looking knife, but that's all I can say for it. The thumb stud is next to impossible to use, and the flipper is downright painful to use. Using the liner lock to close the knife, well forget it. It's a machosists dream. Talk about painful. Added to the pain, the lockup is inconsistent. I bought it to use as a utility knife, but what use is an edc utility knife if you can't get the bloody thing open reliably? I sincerely doubt Lynn Thompson was involved in the design of this knife. Shame on you Cold Steel. *********************************************************** (edited 6/16/2024) In my original review I was very critical of how stiff the knife was in opening it. After having and using this knife for a bit I have to change my opinion. Put a few drops of oil at the pivot and work it open and closed, it will eventually loosen up and you will find this knife is your new bestest edc buddy. I absolutely LOVE this knife now and use it even in the kitchen. I highly recommend it. It even makes a good whittler!

Extremely Sharp and High Quality
This Cold Steel knife is amazing! It came extremely sharp and has excellent blade quality. I love this knife and couldn’t ask for a sharper or better one. Just be careful when handling it because it is extremely sharp. Highly recommended!

Great dinnerware knife for $20.00
I wanted an inexpensive, 4" knife that I could use when I order a steak at a restaurant. This means sometimes cutting to the surface of a dinner plate, and I just can't bring myself to do that with an expensive knife. When I saw this for $20.00 dollars, I figured I'd give it a try, and am satisfied with this knife for this purpose. The knife opens easily with studs on both sides as well as top and bottom flippers which serve well to keep fingers safe. There's even a slide lock to prevent accidentally releasing the liner lock. No way to lock the blade closed, though. The knife arrived moderately sharp, but that's not an issue with me; I touch-up or resharpen any knife I use at the end of the day. More importantly for my use, though, I didn't want an exceptionally tough blade. I didn't want steel that would chip when contacting ceramic surfaces, and I didn't want something that would damage the ceramic surface. Cold Steel, as far as I know, doesn't make anything that will take a truly fine edge, and this is exactly what I wanted and what I got. The scales have some texture and are comfortable. There's a sturdy plastic pocket clip. The whole knife seems sturdy enough, but relatively light. There's nothing sharp that will catch in or damage a pocket when closed, and shouldn't open accidentally. Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase for the price. I may just buy another for my wife.

Best bang for the buck out there!
This is my second Luzan. I lost the first, and immediately ordered another one. I don't think you can find a better EDC knife for the money, and this is coming from a steel snob who has spent $400+ for several hgh dollar knives, all of which presumably have much better steel than this but none of which match its utility. It's easy to pay for more quality than you'll ever need, but it's really hard to find quality like this for extremely affordable prices, like sub $30! It took me a long time to come back to Cold Steel, but Lynn Thompson knows knives and knife design like few others. This Luzan is quick deploying, razor sharp out of the box, and wickedly useful with its 4" blade, stay open lock, and, something I'd never seen before, its nylon pocket clip. I didn't like that at first, but guess what, it not only works, it doesn't cut up car seats or couches. Now I think it should be universal on pocket knives. With its thin blade and rapid flipper opening, its useful and handy for opening Amazon boxes, but would also be a wicked self defense tool, as I think an EDC knife should be. Btw, I paid full price for both of my Luzans from Amazon and am not being compensated in any way for this review. I simply think this knife is the best bang for the buck out there these days. A real sleeper bargain if ever I saw one

Good Value
I purchased two of these. One of them, fully met my expectations, and then some, while the other one had only a minor issue. The only issues that I had with them were as follows: One of the knives' secondary locking mechanism, would rattle a little bit when the knife was moved around. However, when secured via the pocket clip, the rattling did not occur. For both knives, if using them for their intended purpose of SD, you should ensure that the secondary locking mechanism is set into the lock position. It is possible to flick the knife open, without properly securing the primary liner lock. You will know this, is you have difficulty setting the secondary locking mechanism. To avoid this problem, while flipping the knife open using the flipper motion, also use some wrist motion for extra momentum. And then, always secure the secondary locking mechanism. Once this is achieved, you are good to go, and the locking mechanism is very strong. I really like the shape and sharpness of the blade. The flipper motion is very smooth. The knife is light weight, and relatively slim, perfect for EDC. Unlocking the knife is not as smooth as it could be, but there are no serious problems with that.

They sold me a used one
Thought I bought brand new but it appears to not be the case.. Has wear marks on the side and the blade itself has a glint on the edge that's still there after they resharpened? Also theres lint in the creavices. The blade easily opens/closes. A bit too easily, will need to tighten it for some resistance. I do love the overall shape and design of this knife. It is sharp and a work of art. I guess for 30 dollars, I can't complain. Still can't believe they sold me a used one though. A little update.. Mine has cut me twice now, not sure if others are having this issue. Both times, I've reached into my pocket, and found out the hard way that my knife had opened up. Mine doesnt seem to want to close all the way. I had 2 (my sister stole my first) and that one seemed to close/stay closed better versus my 2nd one. I still like it, I may just keep the bolt tight on this one. Update 2 - Knife holds up well. Opened on me again while in my pocket, I wasn't even messing with it. Plan on just making the screw tight and using loctite on threads to keep it in place.
