Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (DVD)

Good movie. I would watch it again

Not a bad addition to mad max series. Could be better but pretty good considering what kind of movies are out now a days

...with more pertinent action sequences than the non-stop chase sequence in Fury Road. OK, let's get one thing straight right out of the door here. I'm a child of the 70s and 80s so the nuclear Post Apocalyptic genre has been in my zeitgeist for most of my life. I was first introduced to it with Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985, followed by seeing Road Warrior a little later on. And then several B-movies that piggyback off the Mad Max craze such as Patrick Swayzee's "Steel Dawn" and a few others. The one thing that always seemed to lack in these films is the World Building in favor of action sequences. In 2015 we got a new entry in the Mad Max world with Fury Road. Which revitalized the franchise to a new degree to where it helped bring attention to the Wasteland Weekend gathering out in California (similar to Burning Man in a way). But like I said Fury Road thrusted us into a "new" tangent of the Mad Max world without really explaining where we are or what's going on. We just barely learned about the Citadel (Immorten Joe's place), the Green Place (Furiosa's former home) and then just in mention Bullet Farm (where ammunition is made) and Gas Town (where gasoline is made). We don't really get an idea what significance these places are other than what their obvious namesake suggests. But in Furiosa here, we finally get all the backstory and world building that was missing from Fury Road. We go to Gas Town (which turns out to be a huge Refinery turned into a Fortress of somesort...think the Gas settlement in Road Warrior times 100.) I think this is where The People Eater is from. And we also go to Bullet Farm which is a concentric circle pit mine where they must mine the lead and/or brass for the ammunition they make. Aside from these locations, we see a lot of returning characters from Fury Road and we get to see some of their backstory. Which makes their roles in Fury Road that much more interesting now. Oh, I should d add here that the script or at least the story outline for Furiosa was written BEFORE Fury Road was made. Because George Miller kinda had to come up with the backstory this new chapter in his Mad Max saga before he made Fury Road. After seeing Furiosa, I kinda wished he would have made this movie first before Fury Road, but I can understand why he didn't because marketing a Mad Max movie to global audiences without Max in it wouldn't have worked. Which is why Furiosa didn't do too well at the Box Office. But forget about that, I have a feeling that it will gain a cult following now that it's available on home media. In fact, you could almost look at both of these films are one long 4½ hour movie, as Furiosa is split into 4 or 5 Chapters, each with a bit of a time jump, and so you could go from where we ended this film right into Fury Road as just another time jump and new chapter just entitled "Fury Road". Now then, how's the 4K Blu-ray? Gotta go with a 5/5. Reference Quality PQ and AQ. I haven't seen a cheaner or sharper 4K presentation yet. Looks almost too clean if you know what I mean. In comparison, Fury Road has a higher grain structure in its presentation. Furiosa looks very digital if you know what I mean. But they actually filmed some of it at the exact place in Australia they filmed parts of Road Warrior.

Good show

This classic movie has a fantastic plot, and the 4K Blu-ray is superb. The picture quality is sharp, and with Dolby Vision, the lighting and color tones are top-notch.

Director George Miller fell short with this "prequel". Set between the last _real_ Mad Max film "Thunderdome" and the Furiosa spinoff "Fury Road". In my opinion, "Furiosa : A Mad Max Saga" makes zero contributions to the Mad Max mythos. I honestly do not know why Miller would choose to make this pointless prequel and not an actual sequel to the blockbuster "Fury Road". Just in case you missed that (and are still reading) this entire movie is just a Furiosa origin story prequel to 2015's "Fury Road". Mad Max only makes a single (silent) cameo that you can miss if you blink your eyes. A supporting character named Praetorian Jack is a Mad Max archetype, down to the leather jacket and a couple of blatant camera shots cribbed straight out of Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior). George Miller's patented eye zoom shots are grossly over used in this film. The special effects were poor compared to "Fury Road", often appearing to be cgi, or ai "enhanced". The acting was not impressive outside of Tom Burke. Chris Hemsworth's character (and the Furiosa story arc) is a cartoonish version of Thulsa Doom from 1982's Conan The Barbarian. The runtime of 148 minutes is about 30 minutes too long for the script. Normally, even after many viewings, the Mad Max films (and the Fury Road reboot) keep my attention throughout their run time, but "Furiosa" had me pausing and resuming ... like, a lot. Your mileage may vary, but if you it's offered as part of your streaming channel, it's worth a watch. 2.5 out of 5 Stars.

Action pack from the beginning

Unexpected. This Mad Max is structured quite differently than previous entries into the franchise. If Fury Road elevated the franchise to Lord of the Rings proportions then this brought it up to Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia level of awesomeness. It is described as the trailer says, an odyssey of the character we were introduced to in Fury Road (Mad Max 4) known as Furiosa. The world building in this is pretty fantastic. We are given sort of an itinerary to the state of the Aussie Wasteland since the fall of Bartertown in Mad Max 3. So…this is loosely Mad Max 3.5 even though it is the fifth installment. But the timeline all together is pretty loose and fluid as these are stories told orally by different narrators down through the generations after the apocalypse. As someone who has grown up with the Mad Max since seeing the first two films on cable, in the 80s, as a kid, and third film in theaters; it is jaw dropping to how this series has evolved in the 2000s. Side notes: This is probably Chris Hemsworth’s best role I’ve seen him in next to Bad Times at El Royale. He is the Wasteland Warlord Dementus. Also…if like me…you played the non-canon Mad Max 2015 video game, guess what. It is now canon. Scrotus and Chumbucket both appear in this entry. Max himself only makes a cameo. Furiosa is the star here similar to the previous entry. This may have flopped at the box office but I think it will simmer, smoke, and regain its losses on home media.

El bluray llegó en buenas condiciones, la calidad de imagen y audio excelentes. Recomendable para los fanáticos de Mad Max.
