Essential for Drain-Back Solar Systems — Reliable Vacuum Break with Simple Noise Fix
I purchased this 3/4" Air and Vacuum Relief Valve to integrate into my DIY solar hot water heater system. Its primary role is to ensure proper vacuum release for reliable drain-back to the solar collection tank—an essential function in this type of system. When the pump is off, this valve breaks the vacuum formed during water return from the solar collector, allowing the water to drain back through the pump. This effectively clears the collector and helps prevent freezing conditions. This valve performs that task very well. The only minor drawback is that it can produce a suction noise, which I’ve demonstrated in the video included with this review. Fortunately, this can be mitigated by placing the unit inside a larger pipe filled with insulation, or by removing the top cap and inserting a small piece of insulation inside. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this valve and highly recommend it for anyone building or improving a drain-back solar hot water system.

Works great on my pool overflow. Keeps all the water from siphoning out of the pool on the super rainy days.

Works Well Once Installed Right
Picked this up for my small backyard drip irrigation setup, and it’s been doing its job nicely. It releases air smoothly and helps keep the system flowing without those annoying spurts when it starts up. Took me a minute to figure out the best placement so it wouldn’t leak, but once tightened properly, it’s been solid. The build quality feels decent for the price, and it’s saved me some hassle with air locks. Overall, a good little part that does what it’s supposed to.
