The First Drawing

I used this book for an art unit in preschool. It's PERFECT, working on multiple levels. It gets the kids thinking about cave men (and women and boys and girls) which many kids are surprised to learn about. It gives a totally plausible possible explanation for the origins of the first art, and it highlights a fundamental purpose of art--to let others see what you see. It's beautiful. The kids listened in complete silence, paying attention to the whole story.

Found this treasure in my eye doctor’s waiting room! What a wonderful introduction for children to history, archeology, and art all in one well illustrated book! I came right home and ordered a copy! Delightful.

What a wonderful book for childre that are learning about prehistoric times and early humans.It not only appeals to my students (grades 1&2) but also celebrates differences in people.

This book will help me teach the kindergarten and first grades about cave drawing. I know it will enhance my lesson.

This book describes a profound idea about something that must have happened. Imagine a time before writing, a time even before pictures. The author draws in the reader/listener right from the beginning. Imagine yourself in this young artist's place. It is clear that this child, like you, has a gift for remembering the way familiar animals look. The child tries to help the elders to see them too by drawing pictures on the walls. This child was the first person to draw, the person who invented drawing. Imagine that!

I use this book in my classroom all the time! (I'm an elementary art teacher) It's a wonderful story that help illustrate prehistoric life for young kids! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

This book had a nice storyline but I didnt care for the way the characters interacted with eachother. The illustrations were phenomenal.

Linda a forma que o livro apresenta a narrativa a partir dos pensamentos do personagem principal, que é cheio de energia e também muito inventivo. Interessante também a viagem até à pré-história, quando o leitor pode ter contato com seres já extintos. Super recomendo!

Muy bonito

A lovely book in its own right but so useful alongside a Stone Age History unit - it really helped the children imagine life in Stone Age times and recognise that we are learning about real (albeit different) people.

Lovely drawings that capture the mood of the book and the story perfectly. My son and I really enjoyed it and used it for homeschooling based on the Stoneage.

My kids love it when i read this book! A nice way of building bonding moments together with what ever age your kids may be!
