Lectron Level 1 EV Charger - ETL Certified, 120V, 15 Amp, 16 ft Extension Cord & J1772 Cable - Portable Electric Car Charger for J1772 EVs and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles

I liked that it was near $100 on sale, and that it only pulls 11.6 amps on the circuit when in use (I measured it to be sure it didn't exceed my outlet rating). So far it has worked flawlessly and I am using it on a 20 amp 120v circuit that only powers the outside outlets on my home and one outlet in the garage. I noticed on my home even though my panel had a 20 amp breaker for that circuit and used 12 ga wire on it the outlets were only 15 amp outlets, so I did have my recepticles replaced with a 20 amp recepticles (almost looks the same) to be sure I did not overload it. However after monitoring its output on numerous occassions I realized it never exceeded 11.6 amps which is within a 15 amps circuit ability to provide safe usage (from my understanding you should not exceed 80% of your circuits capacity, so 11.6 amps / 15 amp circuit = .77, then multiply by 100 and you get it runs at 77% capacity). I mention this because if you are plugging it in to a 15 amp circuit, you need to be sure you don't have other devices using that outlet that use much power, because if you do you will overload it surpassing the 80% rule. For those who don't understand electrical, its a good charger, just be sure other accessories are not plugged into the same circuit when you charge your car if using a 15 amp circuit in my opinion, otherwise you might melt your recepticle. Great charger, good price and I am using it outdoors in front of the house, so I decided to buy an outdoor water proof outlet cover which is lockable, so I could plug in the charger and lock the cover so nobody can just walk up and unplug it and walk off with it. The outlet cover was bought on amazon as well as the lockable J1772 fixture/cable holder. That way when I leave for work and I am not using it, others can't walk off with the charger or plug in their vehicle to it (just in case another was thinking of utilizing my charger - very unlikely I know, but people do odd things these years). In case anyone else is trying to set theirs up in front of the house as well so you can keep your vehicle charged overnight here are the cover and fixture/cable holder descriptions I used to set this up: J1772 EV Charger Nozzle Holster Dock, with Anti-Theft Password Lock, and TayMac MX3300 RaynGuard Extra Duty Metal Weatherproof in-Use Cover, 1-Gang, Gray. Hopefully others will find this useful, both the holder and fixture cover are very easy to install and everything was up and running in about 30 minutes or so.

Used this until I got my level 2. Did what it's supposed to charge sloooow. Got us through until the faster charge was installed. Keeping it in the trunk as an emergency backup. Hooked right up to my Mercedes EQS 450 v4 no issues. Plug, cord and electrical outlet barely got warm. Safe and effective emergency backup.

Needed a replacement charger since my last one got swiped from our driveway, so I picked this Lectron unit up. It works perfectly and gives me exactly what I need on a standard 120V outlet. The big win for me is that it actually comes with a legit, sturdy carrying bag, which is huge for keeping the cable tidy in the trunk when I travel or just for storage. This is exactly what you need if your car didn't come with a portable charger or, like me, you need a quick, affordable replacement for the factory one. It’s a solid, reliable Level 1 plug-in that gets the job done—definitely a five-star recommendation.

This is a quality made product but anything that draws 15 amps of power requires a 20 amp circuit. The site claims a 15 amp circuit is what is required. A 15 amp circuit is only good for 12 amps, or 80%. I plugged my Id4 in a 15 amp garage outlet with nothing else but some lights on it, and it tripped the breaker after about 15m. Not a problem for me, I'm an electrician. There is no way to upgrade a 15 amp circuit. It requires new 20 amp wire, a 20 amp breaker and a 20 amp outlet. The typical garage only comes with 15 amp.

Works as expected for my Mach-E. No problems. Easy to use. I don’t use its app or smart features.Nice case to keep in my frunk.

After almost two month of intermittent use the charger no longer works. It seems to pull down a high voltage because it burned through a heavy duty, outdoor extension cord. Do not recommend.

The charger works well: however, I cannot unplug it from the extension cord. I don’t know if it melted together. At one point it smelled burnt but it dissipated and continued to work. I would like to figure how to unplug it from the extension cord without having to get a whole new charger. Please help.

Some people have noted that it's not UL-certified. But it is ETL-certified, recognized in the US, Canada, and most of Europe, to the same standards as UL. Good enough for me. We are occasional AirBnBers, looking for overnight top-ups of 70-80 miles. So this is not for major long-range use (we have a 240V 10 kW outlet at home for that.) I see much poor advice about not using extension cords to connect the thing. (The final cords on chargers are often too short for practical use in the driveway, etc.) Extensions are fine., BUT... Initially I tried a 14-gauge (15 amp) cord, but it it became very slightly warm, indicating power loss in the cable. Upgrading to a 12-gauge (20 amp) cord improved things--no warm cord--and also increased the charging rate a little. For our Kia EV6, charging rate was 1.3-1.4 kW, not bad at all. On that car, that is 6-7 miles gained per hour of charging. Very useful overnight, and avoids much hunting for fast chargers that are actually working. The included bag is nice, and has room for a 10-ft extension cable. It won't fit in the EV6's stupid little frunk, but that's OK!
