Latin Crosswords

I suppose it all depends on what you expect (and want), but I was disappointed with this book. I was looking for straight-forward crosswords with English or Latin clues and Latin answers (rather like the Times Saturday crosswords). Although there are a few crosswords like this in the book, the majority of them are not conventional crosswords but are a bewildering variety of formats and methods which I found over-complicated at best and downright annoying at the worst. The key problem is that all these rather whimsical crosswords (if you can call them that) get in the way of what is surely one's main aim to learn new words and test your knowledge of Latin. A pity.

The recipient was absolutely delighted. I gave it as a gift for a long flight which meant she looked at it straight away and it passed the time very well. She said it was engaging, amusing and had varied levels so she felt clever enough without being too challenged!

Although the item was described as 'used', because it was a crossword book and some of the crosswords had been filled in with biro, that fact should have been mentioned initially.

Using this for an adult learning Latin group. Quite good as light relief, thugh some of the layouts a bit confusing.Bit USA orientated eg lots of State mottos.

great fun; enjoyed by the family at Christmas time....
