Awesome product. Recommended.
I used this product to save a hard drive from a dead macbook pro (2011 series). Worked awesome and only one USB connection required (not two like other products). I was able to extract the data with no issues (i had to remove some side screws from drive, but that's easy). Plus the product comes with its own screwdriver, and even an extra screw in case you lose one (they are tiny)! Then I was able to clear off the drive and connect into my Airport Extreme router and use as a time machine backup (router-based storage). Amazing works without a hitch. Its USB3 which is very cool, but only using in USB 2.0, where it works perfectly also -- cable included. Very easy to use (no instructions required, just plug in your SATA drive).

Beautifully simple design that compliments Apple's aesthetic
Just purchased one of these to house a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT that used to live in my 15" MacBook Pro. i upgraded to the new 13" MacBook Air with 256GB SSD but needed additional storage space as well as a faster way to transfer my data using Migration Assistant. This housing fits any 2.5" SATA HDD under 12.5mm thick and utilizes the faster USB 3.0 SuperSpeed spec while maintaining backwards compatibility with USB 2.0. even while using the older 2.0 spec, the transfer rates seem markedly faster than my other SATA to USB 2.0 drive housings, which is a plus and is likely attributed to the built-in chipset. for those looking at the somewhat awkward looking connector on the housing, it is the new MicroUSB connector for USB 3.0... this connector is based on the 6-pin MicroUSB (NOT 5-pin MiniUSB) connector currently used on most mobile phones but features an additional connection that allows for higher power and a couple more signaling lines, but it's 100% backwards compatible with the MicroUSB 2.0 connector standard. facing the connector upright, you can use any previous MicroUSB cable by utilizing the right side of the connector. the kit also includes a USB 3.0 cable that is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports, but this new cable fills the socket completely. also included with the kit are a couple of extra screws to secure the housing lid and a screwdriver. for the price, it's not bad at all for the speed you get and the design, but it isnt the cheapest option available. you can save $5-10 by going with a more generic look from any of a number of brands. what you get for the price is USB 3.0 compatibility and of course it's design. in case the photos dont reveal it fully, it basically looks like a jumbo version of Apple's Magic Mouse. compared to other external portable HDD's, it's about average in size... larger than most USB only external HDD's, but slimmer than most firewire external drives. width and length are about average, and internally it uses these dimensions to accommodate rubber buffers to help protect the drive from shock... something most cheap housings do without. the activity LED is blue and simply comes on once the drive is powered and flickers spastically as the drive is accessed. this is a nice housing with its glossy white acrylic face and matte silver plastic base, again mimicking the look of Apple's Magic Mouse and worth the money based on its speed and USB 3.0 compatibility. if aesthetics are important to you, which it seems to be with most Apple computer owners, then this is worth the extra few bucks. it is also the lowest price you'll find as it seems to be about $5-10 more elsewhere i've looked.

The Love-Hate Scenario...
Positives: * Has two drive slots - each slot can support a slim SSD or the 3.5in HDD drives so you can mix and match. * The Copy function is REALLY awesome. It does a COMPLETE copy of the entire drive to another drive and no computer is needed for the process * Relatively small footprint (single HD units of this type are not that much smaller). Cons: * 1tb drive copy took about 30 mins (2.5in HDD ->2.5in SSD) and at the end, both drives were definitely *warm*. Some form of cooling solution would help when the unit is being used regularly. * The unit has a kinda cheap plastic white top, so this unit must be handled with care (the photo of the product is not really true to the look). * The USB cable provided is incredibly short. I highly recommend you consider purchasing a 6ft USB 3.0 cable along with this unit - make sure it's a TYPE A to TYPE B USB 3.0 Cable!! * Not recommended as a dock for your HD. Normally, when the computer goes to sleep/shutdown the hard drives sleep/shutdown as well. This thing is still keeping the drive active even when the compuer is off/sleeping. This will take a toll on your drive and ultimately will contribute to it being worn-out. Summary: This is a weird unit, it definitely has some cheap-feeling aspects to the build quality, yet it does it's job pretty well and is absolutely invaluable if you want to migrate your data to a new drive without having to to do it with your computer.

Perfect so far, and cheap
I grabbed a couple of these for how cheap they are and I needed a few cases. The reviews seemed to indicate these don't work, but for me they all have been working flawlessly. The package also stated these are only supported up to 750gb, which worried me as I wanted to throw in a 1TB laptop drive I just got from my new laptop. Well it turns out these do work with 1TB drives. The drive is no longer in one of these cases, but I had to see for my own if they supported more than 750 or not, and they in fact do for anybody who cares to know that. They tested the drives speed on benchmark atto, at 75MB/s(must be the crappy offbrand laptop drive along with the 5400RPM). So it certainly is running at normal capacity and USB 3.0 is working as intended. These cases are a breeze, I love them actually. Pop open the two latches/hooks, and install the adapter to the HDD or SSD and fit it into the case, snap close and away you go with a USB 3.0 case. I was thinking I might put a single band of electric tape or a tape of some type around it as it is screw-less, and I want the added security feeling in case of someone dropping it. The cords supplied with it, conform to the normal 2.5 drive standard that seems to be going around, but they are quite short, maybe just 10 inches. Certainly 5 stars without a doubt. Hope this has helped.

Works fine. Not 100% aluminum
I love the way the cord wraps neatly around this enclosure, making it easy to carry around. I'm getting awfully tired of enclosure manufacturers implying that their product is 100% metal. Yeah... the part that's metal is 100% metal, but the plastic parts are 100% plastic. This is no different. The main body is aluminum, but both end-caps are plastic. Performance is as expected. I use an older 240GB SSD in mine, and it works great for fast, portable storage. Installation could be a little easier. You'll need a glasses-sized Phillips screwdriver to get it open and closed. In spite of the fact that I have lots of experience dealing with tiny screws and building computers, I found these screws to be so small that opening and closing it feels fiddly. This probably isn't the best option if you intend to do a lot of drive swapping. The activity light works well and clearly indicates data transfer. No additional power supply is included or needed - drives this size get all of their power right from the USB3 cord. Overall I'm reasonably happy. I would have paid a few dollars more for a truly 100% metal enclosure, though. I like the weight and substance of something solid.

Garbage
Overall, it does its job. I wish it was a bit smaller(see picture as comparison to a standard 2.5" external drive), but at least it has a built in USB cable. Build quality seems ok, but not great. The drive I put in doesn't fit as snug as I'd like it to, and moves around when handling the enclosure. Update a couple weeks later... Enclosure completely failed. cant read or write files to any drive i put in it after it is plugged in for more than a couple of minutes. Out of the 5 external 2.5" drives I have...this is the only one to give me any sort of grief. Changed my overly nice 4 star review to 1 star.

Good at first, bad after a month or so.
These things work great for the first few weeks, but after that, they start to fail. I had 3 of them 1 of the older model with the USB cord hardwired in, and the other 2 with the detachable wire, first the hardwired one wouldn't stop disconnecting, I moved it to multiple USB ports and computers, same thing happened I had to throw it away, then one the the newer models started doing the same thing. They were awesome when they were working but they did go downhill pretty fast like a month or so and became unusable, I have one left that is working fine, but I'm not going to trust it. I'm just going to buy one of those multiple bay USB 3.0 drive adapters which are expensive but worth it, if they work.

Unsure at purchase, convinced now.
I ordered this two days ago when I decided that I wanted to use my spare SSD as an external drive to augment the small (256GB) SSD space in the new Macbook Pro Retina(the laptop isn't for everyone, for people that have to work on their laptops it's the best). The order arrival date was about 5 more days (I'm in Southern California, btw), so either the distributor is close, or they have elves working there. Anyway the actual product is very sleek, it's going to be extremely easy to travel around with. I just did a rough test by booting up the same virtual machine on my desktop with a 7200RPM HDD vs This USB 3.0 enclosure with the Plextor PX-M2P inside and this external device won by a slim margin. I haven't done benchmarks, yet but I can tell it's [a lot] faster then my older, higher capacity spinning HDD. The USB 3.0 interface is nice, this whole case is plastic, but it's curved so it should be able to handle a beating, there's rubber on the that makes installation a firm affair and the drive feels as if it's a part of the enclosure. The blue light that blinks isn't excessively bright (use at night doesn't bother anyone - it only blinks when it's accessed. The installation is pretty simple, there's four screws on the bottom, the supplied screw driver worked better then anything else I had available. The supplied USB 3.0 cable is about 4" long, so you may want to invest in a longer cable if it's too short for you (it's long enough to rest it alongside my track pad, or behind the monitor on my leg). I had thought about buying an aluminium case, but I'm glad I went with this UPDATE: I think this in combination with my SSD is faster then my 7200RPM HDD. Totally worth it if you have a laptop that needs additional space.

Perfecto para una rápida migración a SSD
Compré un SSD a muy buen precio aquí mismo y para hacer una rápida migración de mi disco este adaptador fue una excelente opción.
