Easy and fun
Great product, worked fantastic on this years pecan crop! Easy to use and saves your hands from shelling!

So far so good!
So far so good, the way I use it for pecans is I crack the ends as close to the edge as possible and then just work my way around the nut cracking it lightly until I can peel the shell off. Works great.

Great tool, first time user - definitely keep
Who would have thought this would be the best tool to crack pecans? Not me! It is very comfortable to grip for long period of time. It is great (great great) to snip the tips on pecans. It then is great to give a gentle crack to the entire nut - you put the entire nut into the cavity (space between blades the plastic cover piece) and then give it a squeeze - the shell gets a gentle crack without destroying the 'meat' of the nut. I was able to get many half-pecan pieces that were intact - perfect for pecan pie. I had 5 gallons bucket of pecans and used this tool first time in my life - now I will always recommend it. It is probably not at all useful for small nuts (hazelnuts). The only caution I have to give - it is strong and sharp to cut the shell of a nut, -- it will cut your finger if you are not careful. I can only imagine this -- I had no cut, not a single injury from this tool so far.

Watch the YouTube video first! And keep away from children...
This can do the job. Once proficient you can get a good number of intact halves. I found a video on YouTube which really helped show how to use it. Carefully cut a small bit off each end. Then place the nut within (this part seems a bit daunting with those SHARP teeth) and gently crack and rotate it (careful of fingers!). This is easier shown (see video) than explained in writing. The cracker itself is well made and sturdy. The teeth and the lever action could easily injure an unwary finger so this is not a playtoy for children (though an older, responsible child could use it, if careful) - could be easily enough wielded by a kid but a pinch or worse could also happen easily. I would recommend watching the video first before purchase. I was given one a few years ago and didn't think much of it. Having a large amount of pecans given to me in the shell this fall I needed to get cracking. Then I thought of checking YouTube and sure enough! there was a video. After that I had a much better appreciation for it and even bought one for my father in law (that's why I recommend the video). The newly purchased York nut sheller was just as well built as the one I had been given about a decade ago, though in a different type of packaging.

Great for pecans
Takes some practice but best tool I have tried. Cuts through pecans easily, not hard to use. Feels good in the hand. With the way it cracks them open I'm satisfied with the price.

Best for Pecans
Works the best ever for pecans. I grew up in Texas using these things. Forgot how great they are. The meat of a pecan is difficult to tease out with standard nut crackers, as they tend to just make the whole thing crumble. With The Texan, you can nibble away the shell and consistently pullout intact pecan halves. Yummmm.

Need better quality control.
Bushing in pivot a little too short. Screw was loosening off during use. Tried to tighten but that locked up the tool. Had to add a washer to allow enough room for the spring to work freely.
