Excellent first atlas.
I looked at a few children's atlases before deciding on this one as it strikes a good balance between interactivity and detail. My little one loves looking at the pictures and opening the flaps showing the different features of the countries and when he gets a little older, there is enough information in the book to keep him interested until he is old enough for a more comprehensive one. The world map with all the flags is excellent too, we spent a long time looking at these and picking which ones were our favourites.

Lift the Flap Picture Atlas
This is a wonderful Atlas which has been beautifully illustrated by Kate Leake. There environmental themes depicted in each Geographical region are immediately eye catching and full of interest to people of all ages.I really enjoyed the numerous lifting flaps which are durable and full of interest. I would have liked to see a more detailed map of the Svalbard Arctic area showing young scientists researching Polar Bears and the Aurora. That aside the images from across the world are depicted in a highly original illustrative style that avoids reinforcing stereotypical views of the world's people and regions. The images refect the wonderful artistic skills of Kate Leake. An excellent buy, and extremely good value.

A bit advanced for my 3 year old as very busy pictures
Brought this for my 3 year old as he wanted to know where Bluey lives and where volcanoes are. It’s a great book but perhaps too ‘busy’ for his age. More Shiites to 4 years and up hence 4 stars.

Really happy with this book. Created great interest in the wider world for the four year old it was bought for.

It’s a book for children, so just simplify the world and mark Taiwan belongs to China as it claims? I say just because the book is for children, the author needs to pay attention to explain the world in a neutral way. If you are a Taiwanese you don’t buy the book for your children. Usborne did self-censor for whatever reasons. I recommend Atlas from lonely planet instead.

We love this book and are thrilled that it is a bonus supplement to our homeschool curriculum. Not only is it nice to look at, but each flap has additional facts and learning information. We enjoy how the continents are separated so that we can focus on the material that we are studying in school. The product itself is well made, sturdy, and nicely bound. The map in the back of the book is an extra joy- we love taking it out and talking over the map with our schleck animals.
