Vargic's Miscellany of Curious Maps: The Atlas of Everything You Never Knew You Needed to Know

This book is full of a range of fascinating and incredibly detailed maps, including several fold-out pages. The beautiful maps are on a range of interesting, historical and sometimes quirky topics. The book is well made and uses good quality print and paper. It's the kind of book that you can re-visit often and always find something new. It makes a great gift.

The maps in this book truly are curious; they're also intricately drawn and informative. If you've ever wondered where in the world you are most likely to be struck by lightning, how many tractors there are per 1,000 inhabitants in any given country or the location of the highest concentration of heavy metal bands (in my case this is useful so I can avoid going there!) then this book is for you. I bought this book as a present for my teenage niece, who loved it, but I couldn't resist having a sneeky read before I wrapped it.

This was a fantastic gift for my father. The book looked like new and the maps are very interesting and entertaining.

Great book. Looks amazing. I didn't truly know what it was about and bought it for my child and he loves maps. This is not for children in my opinion. Some parents might not care about the swear words and maps or which city has the most sexual population. But all this doesn't take away from the book itself if that's what your into. Very well designed book.

With an incredible amount of detail this young author has taken our concept of the world and thrown it into the 21st century. I would say a definate gift for 11yrs and over. It is a large book and the design and quality makes it excellent value. Arrived well boxed and in very good time.

Wonderfully imaginative and incredibly detailed, this book of maps gives love to how a person thinks about many subjects and how they connect to one another. I highly recommend this book as it is fun to look at every map and ponder how I think about the different subjects that are "mapped" out on the page. The map of stereotypes is brilliant and the map of musical styles is my favorite.

I bought this together with GREAT MAPS also available through Amazon and what an exceptional combination for anyone interested in both the development of cartography and how it has inspired our imaginations. This is book is suitable for those interested in the colour and originality of map design and display whilst Great Maps provides more technical and historical detail. Both will inspire young and old alike to love not only maps but the way that a map describes our fantasies, our desire to travel, the wonders of our history, culture and the places we will find (and aspire to discover), the journey that is life and ultimately our ambitions for all of those things. This and GREAT MAPS are two rare gems, beautifully made and wonderfully laid out.

It looks stunning my husband loves cartography and is going to enjoy reading this book and studying the maps. Beautiful colours excellent quality.

This book is visually beautiful. What an unbelievable way to look at the world. My nephews ages 5 to 14 have loved looking at this book with us. The author is clearly a savant. The included loose pull out map was a surprise. My husband is a world history teacher at a college prep school and an avid book lover. I ordered this for Christmas for one of my nephews. It is now my husbands and we have recorded others for gifts. Brilliant.
