Very nice, happy with it, now gave it the extra star
I bought this on Amazon Prime and delivery was all you'd expect. I am generally happy with it, it came boxed with guarantee and instruction manual. It has a screw down crown which comes out halfway to adjust day and date (one in each direction) and fully out for the time. The second hand can be held in order to synchronise if that's your thing. I did that last night and checked some 14hrs later and it seems the watch lost about 8-9 seconds, which is in line with comments from other people. Updated: I checked time again after 5 days and it's still within 3 seconds, which is great. Note I also originally thought the hands/dial are not luminous but I guess they needed some sunlight to work and they are indeed luminous. An added bonus for me is that the second hand sweeps, which I wasn't expecting. The canvas strap looks pretty sturdy and has a plastic insert stitched over the buckle holes for added strength which should stop the holes from stretching. At the price point this is a nice watch, being midsize not massive helps its understated look. I felt slightly churlish not giving 5 stars originally and now I have changed my mind and added the 5th.

A watch with a soul.
Superb, great watch. Just what I expected from Seiko. Great build quality, strap sturdy but comfortable, beautiful dial.... And no, it isn't too noisey as it self winds. Time wise, it's only lost 15 seconds in three days. I'm a radio presenter and time is an essential issue in broadcasting, the watch is well within tolerance. I've been using a Seiko quartz's for 21 years, never let me down, but became sick and tired of buying batteries. My new Seiko 5 is proving to be my new trusted companion. It looks good, and was a doddle to set up, day date easy....just be aware, it cycles through the other languages during it's change, don't panic, it's not broken. ;) Buy with confidence, this is a wonderful timepiece, slight time adjust once a week and your good to go. The watch has a soul, enjoy her personality....far better than a soulless quartz. Highly recommended.

Quality entry-level pilot's automatic
A very nice piece of kit, mine arrived on time and was worn for a week to test out before sending it to a friend. I gather a small number of these have had faults, but mine worked perfectly. A little smaller than many are used to these days, but smart, rugged, reliable and accurate - bearing in mind that it's an automatic and must be worn most days to keep its self-winding system active! Looks good, looks smart, decent though not brilliant strap, keeps accurate time, goes with both formal and casual wear. A nice piece of engineering and a good entry-level automatic watch for the price. Get one, else you're nuts!!

Good solid, old fashioned, reliable craftsmanship
Well engineered and robust watch, typical of what you'd expect from Seiko in this field. The watch face is not too large, so it's unobtrusive and not at all "showy". The day/date is relatively easy to set up, though if you've been used to automatic watches in the past, it feels a bit of a headache doing it the old-fashioned way. It's a kinetic watch, the principles of which elide me, but it works fine. The strap is a no frills woven one, great for the rugged outdoors (or if, like I, you just can't be bothered taking it off when your doing rough stuff). It's easy to put on, even in the dark. the illumination is basic, but at the price, it would be churlish to complain. So overall, good value and a handsome, even masculine looking watch, without the appearance of a ship's porthole equipped with useless bevels and steel/rubber additions so typical of contemporary fashion.

Watch arrived couple weeks ago and I've been wearing it ...
Watch arrived couple weeks ago and I've been wearing it day and night so far without any problems. The watch and the band both feel comfortable, just keep the wristband snug but not tight to keep it from sliding and rolling around your wrist. Watch definitely has a quality and a classic minimalistic look on it in my opinion. Many say it is too small which is not true. I would say it's "normal" size watch and if it were any larger, it would look just plain stupid. Classic looking watch with a classic size. During the first couple days, the watch was really slow, like 5-10 minutes per day, but when I adjusted it second time it has been quite accurate. Only 3-5 seconds per day which is accurate enough for sure. Great watch indeed, I like the weight, looks and the feel of it. And the price? I just might buy another one...

A Great Seiko As Usual
As usual for Seiko. a great watch for the price. Seiko are always well made and this is no exception. Just the right size for my wrist and frankly I can't understand the modern trend in supersize gents' wristwatches. I've read some of the 1 star comments too. I don't know where some of these buyers are coming from. For example, some of them don't seem to understand what an automatic mechanical watch is. Automatics have to be worn daily or in the case of most Seiko watches waved from side to side for half a minute or so to keep the watch wound if you don't like wearing a watch except when out and about. Mechanical watches are not as accurate as quartz watches as their 'beat' isn't nearly as rapid as a quartz crystal! If you just want accuracy, buy a £5 'cheapo'. The advantage of an automatic is of course that you won't have to trust the competence of a high street jeweller to change the battery without digging a furrow in the back plate! As for the glass; it is glass - not plastic as one reviewer tries to claim. And some of the most famous and very expensive mechanical watches are automatics of course, and even if they're certified chronometers, have a look at what their daily accuracy is actually guaranteed to. You'll be surprised!

Screw loose! (product)
I purchased the Seiko SNK805K2 for 3 reasons, the reputation associated with the brand, the looks, and the incredible markdown (as advertised) from a £300+ price tag to an inytiny £70.00. The product arrived in good time and for over a month I wafted my watch bearing arm in front of any human being close enough to catch a glimpse of its rather simple yet attractive face, making special mention of the very smooth 2nd hand movement to all who were nurtured into wanting to know more. The watch is definitely smaller than the usual men's watches (this was my 1st opening remark to my now growing audience) whilst the ability to see the 'working' mechanics of the automatic watch in action (courtesy of the glass window)lends one to marvel at the wonders of watch making from bygone years. It's near silent operation is a wonderful testament to - yes, its near silent operation hmmmm! After just a month the self winding mechanism became so loud that every time I moved my arm my now somewhat bewildered audience would ask if I have a rare condition of the wrist which made a rubbing metallic sound. The truth was thankfully somewhat less worrying, the self winding mechanism was becoming more and more loose, until, on Friday the 31st August at exactly 2.33pm, the mechanism jammed, and it was just a matter of time before the watch stopped working. By now my audience had all but dispersed, unimpressed by reputation, looks, and even the comment "what a mug, thinking a 70 quid watch down from 300 quid was legit" (whatever legit stands for). But, rather than waste time (though I couldn't tell how much time was being wasted) and money returning the watch for repair, I purchased a watch removing back tool, and with the help of an adjustable spanner, removed the back and tightend the screw holding the winding mechanism. Now my watch is in perfect working condition, again. So overall, it is a great looking watch, different, comfortable to wear, but if I see some other watch bearing person waving the same SNK in a manner similar to that of my own experience, I'll be sure to point them in the direction of one of our nations much loved DIY stores !!!

Excellent once it's wound.
I was fed up with changing batteries in watches and considered simply buying a cheap watch whenever the battery died. Trouble is, cheap watches look cheap so i decided to try a decent automatic watch and found this for a good price. For the first week I was rather disappointed because it kept stopping in the middle of the night. To cut a long story short, you cannot wind this watch manually, all you need do is put it on your wrist and rotate your wrist about 100 times. Since I did that the watch has never stopped. I am very pleased with the watch. It looks good on my narrow wrist, keeps good time and best of all I will never get ripped off by jewellery stores charging too much to replace a battery. As others have said, the only improvement would be to provide instructions that relate specifically to this model. Update: 2 years on and I still like the watch. As others have noted, it does run a little fast. For me it is not a big problem so I do not bother to measure at what rate it gains, I just set it back a few minutes as needed. The case is tough, no scratches and I wear it all the time. The woven band still looks Ok even though the leather strip around the holes has worn a little. Update: the watch is now 7 years old. I have never replaced a battery, which is great. However it now loses about 4 or 5 minutes a day even when fully wound. This may not seem like much but if I forget to adjust it for a few days it can then be 15 mins slow which means that I can not rely on the watch. Update: the watch is now 9 years old. The strap is a bit tatty but otherwise it still looks good. Strangely it is keeping better time than it did 2 years ago. If I make the effort to wind it every 5 days or so (simply by rotating my wrist for a minute or so) it keeps decent time.

Great Value, Budget Automatic Watch
Bought on sale for ~30% off. For that price it can't be beat. It's small, light, clearly tells the time, day and date, without a battery. It's cheap enough that I don't mind wearing it everywhere, and risking scratches. It looks good (the dial is darker green than the pictures make out). The reviews regarding other languages in the day dial are correct - it does have other words in there, but I think it's an international market situation. Once you setup the watch correctly, which takes only a minute or two, the days tick over as you'd expect and maintain the language you choose (you can see how it works when you set it up). The watch is light, which some people have construed as 'cheap' but the watch is cheap. I'm wearing this watch everywhere so I prefer it to be light, smaller, and flatter than my other more expensive automatic watches. If you want a premium, heavy, all singing watch, spend 4x the cost of this and then realize you should've spent more. This watch is an everyday work horse. No frills time, date, and day. Simplicity. If you want a no nonsense watch that just works, this is it. Some reviewers have mentioned quality issues on their examples - mine was not one of them. Remember, if you got a watch that wasn't working, you'd leave a review. If it was what you'd expect, you'd almost never come back to review. So there's a review bias here. I'm here because it came up in my boxing day sales, and I thought I'd give a review of ownership since black Friday.

Excellent, versatile, classic watch. Affordable price.
This is a great watch. So much has been said in other reviews that I won't add to the noise but one area that hasn't been thoroughly discussed I feel I may have something to add to is the color of this specific model (SNK807). As an artist color is paramount and something I'm sensitive to. So having only the pictures online to go on was something of a leap of faith for me, the luxury of holding something in our hands before we buy it is foregone when purchasing over the Internet. The user posted pics all seemed to vary from one another, either being super saturated green or nearly black. So I've posted my own pics which are very color accurate. The first pic is in broad daylight, which is as green as this watch gets. The other two are under normal room lights (daylight fluorescents). My point is, this is a dark olive drab with almost no green at all, which is exactly what I had hoped for. Another aspect of this watch I really like is its versatility. You can strap on a fancy leather strap and its a classy dress watch, or throw a NATO style strap on and head into the wilderness for years at a time and not worry about anything, especially batteries (this is a fully mechanical automatic watch). It may not be obvious, but this is also related to color. The neon green strap this watch is shipped with is bright and has the effect of making the watch face appear more green. Google "simultaneous contrast" for more, or believe me when I say your choice of strap color has a huge influence on what color the watch appears to the eye. I bought a very nice $30 "OD phalanx" strap from Crown and Buckle and am very pleased, plus the khaki NATO strap, both of which are pictured above. My sample ran less than 30 seconds fast for the entire first week I owned it, and has been plus or minus two seconds a day since then. From what I've read of other automatics, this is outstanding especially for the price, and I couldn't be happier with this watch. I have no idea what the negative reviews are talking about, unless they bought from someone other than Amazon and received Feikos. Another thing I'd like to clarify is the Lumibrite. It's brightness and longevity are directly proportional to how much light YOU expose it to before it's in darkness. Ten to twenty minutes in direct sunlight and it will glow like its radioactive for hours. Only room lights and it's a subtle glow for a couple of hours. I didn't really want this feature, but now that I have it I love it. Really, the pattern it has when all the lights are out is really classy. It's like an old Rolex design. Very nice, Seiko. Thanks for a great watch. Will buy again, even if it's just to get the other colors!
