Does this shaver have a separate trimmer like the old 5612 had?

Yes, it is on the reverse side of the Shaver, opposite the on/off switch. I have found it to work well too. Derek

can you use this from the mains even if the battery is totally flat ?

Despite the answers in the positive, this shaver DOES NOT RUN WHEN PLUGGED INTO THE A/C. You have to charge it for 5 minutes to get a quick shave if it is flat. Alternatively, take note of the charging LED on the razor. If it flashes red when you are turning the razor off, it needs charging before the next use.

can you stand in the shower and shave

Yes. I have used it for years to wet shave at the sink. Occasionally I use it in the shower. I find it shaves well wet with shaving foam. I would NOT recommend gel as for me it seems to block up the shaver.

Does this shaver have a mains adapter

Yes, of course it has a mains adapter! (Ignore those who say it doesn't!!) The current Amazon listing wrongly calls it a plug. The product photos show what it looks like. (April 2020)
