If your me, you heard the song Crazy Heart and were completely infatuated with this guy. And then you picked up Mescalito and listened to in a million times while running, walking, driving, sitting, standing, and anything else that requires you to consciously be aware and breath oxygen, (also listen to it while you sleep, but that requires breathing, but not the consciously aware part) After that you picked up Roadhouse Sun and went, ehhh. But then Junky Star and you listened to it a little but weren't sold. Now, I go back and I'm sold on Junky Star, and while I was sold on TomorrowLand, it isn't the high water mark. It's a blend between Mescalito, and the faster paced Roadhouse Sun. But I believe we were waiting for a blend between Mescalito and Junky Star. Don't get me wrong, it's a great album, but this guy is now cursed just like being Jacob Dylan. Everyone you meet no matter what you do will compare you to something better, and ask how that father Bob of your's are doing. While I believe this album was worth buying the second it came out as I did, I also believe I would still go to his concert and wait to go nuts hearing Southside of Heaven, and then whatever else he played, well, cool.Gosh Darn Mescalito was that good. To me.But if you like his music, and want it a little harder that Mescalito, a lot harder than Junky Star, but not a rock album as Roadhouse Sun, this is perfect. It truly is right in between.

I have been a fan of Ryan since Mescalito. I was the one who told all of my friends that this kid would go far long before he wore a tux and accepted an Oscar for Crazy Heart. Then T-Bone Burnett entered the picture to produce Junky Star, which only had about 4 good songs on it. I have always hated the production efforts of T-Bone and thought that he was highly over-rated, in fact ruining otherwise good songs (I would NEVER let him touch my own material!!!).Now Ryan has self-produced this new brilliant masterpiece. As for the negative reviews that just don't get it, they must all be die-hard country fans who absolutely hate rock. Having been a rocker all of my life and then finally getting off my high horse to check out some good country concerts, this reminds me of shows like Lonestar, Tanya Tucker, and Collin Raye whereby when they perform their rock influences, the die-hard country fans get up and leave in droves. Same Here! Now that Ryan is showing his Led Zeppelin and U2 influences, lots of folks have already written it off without giving it a fair shake. Make no misktake - THIS IS A ROCK RECORD, so if that ticks you country fans off, save your money and negative reviews!Every song is just great, even if Rising From The Ghetto can give anyone the chills.That happens to be my least favorite song on this one, but I do respect Ryan's desire to portray his message. Hopefully, the ghetto kids won't believe this one!

More uptempo and less introspective than Junky Star, Tomorrowland has some good hits, but also some misses. The opening track, Beg for Broken Legs, starts out strong reminiscent of his Roadhouse Sun albums. The lyrics, a man's refusal to be down when he is out, are powerful and could become an anthem for the working class in this time of economic distress. I am reminded of the sentiments in Springsteen's "Wrecking Ball" album earlier this year.The next two tracks also carry a lot of Bingham's trademark licks and vocals, while for many of the middle tracks listeners will hear Bingham moving in new directions. This is Bingham's first self-produced album under a new label, and it should be seen as a bold move. "Rising of the Ghetto" is the biggest miss, becoming a riot of sound and lyrics that won't resonate.Whether Tomorrowland is a step in the direction of artistic growth, or a step back, depends on what comes next. The remaining tracks are more raw, with more experimental sound than prior albums. Whether this sound pleases listeners will depend, in part I think, on how committed listeners are to Bingham. Based on interviews, I think Bingham is willing to take the risk and face the wrath.

This CD just didn't do it for me. Loved Mescalito, Loved Junky Star, Loved Fear and Saturday Night. But this one just doesn't feel right. Feels rushed and not well written.

Great tunes as always from Ryan. Bingham drifts a little from his normal style on the record. It’s a great rock n’ roll offering. The mashup of his signature voice, with the faster sounds is well worth picking this up.

Ryan Bingham has dropped The Dead Horses, but has replaced them with some good studio pro's in, Richard Bowden on fiddle, who has worked with many artists for over 40 plus years, guitarist Greg Leisz who has worked on Matthew Sweet, Sheryl Crow and a dozen more artists, Keith Ciancia on keyboards and Matt Sherrod on drums andShawn Davis on bass. What a great album opener in "Beg For Broken Legs", great Led Zeppelin sounding song with some great string work, this should be heard on country radio to spice up the mother f....... country charts! The nerve rattling "Guess Who's Knocking", the great first single release "Heart Of Rhythm", the 8 minute "Rising Of The Ghetto", some very good lyrics here, "Keep It Together", the beautiful "Never Far Behind", the rockabilly sound of "The Road I'm On" and the acoustic show stopper "Too Deep To Fill". "Flower Bomb", would of fit perfectly on "Junky Star". 31 year-old Ryan Bingham keeps it going. People you have to give this more than one listen, great stuff!

2007年メジャーデビュー以降順調に評価を得、前作「Junky Star」でも大きな成功をおさめたニューメキシコ生まれの若きSSW、Ryan Bingham4作目。今までの、各プロデューサーやバックバンド連中含めミュージシャンの圧倒的な存在感と力量で提示してきたサザンロック、スワンプ、カントリー、ブルースとはまた違った肌触りの、ストリングスアレンジが印象的ながら基本的には非常にナチュラルなギターロックに寄っている。アメリカンルーツの癖や、トラッド臭、大陸的なイメージなんかはさほど感じる事がない、また今までの成功に対する気負いもない、普通にロックな作品に。今回は初の本人によるプロデュース（Justin Stanleyとの共同プロデュース)そして自らがたちあげたレーベルから初リリース。前作までの成功からは離れ、かつ自主レーベルからのリリース等々新たなスタートなんで、もう少し気合い入れた、派手なロック又はルーツィで強烈なカントリーやブルースやれば良いのに・・・とへんに心配してしまうのだが、このじわじわとにじみ出るアメリカンロックの幹のでかさと、本人の武骨ながら今まで以上に伝わる温かさに感動する。きっと評価のわかれる作品だろうが、個人的にはこのタイミングで、この何の変哲もないロックアルバムだからこそ、末永くつきあえるSSWであることを確信。素晴らしいミュージシャンであり、良いアルバムだ。フィドルにRichard Bowen、Greg Leiszがギターで参加

進化、というか、より不偏化したロックに落ち着いた、というイメージの新作。楽曲と歌声の魅力は相変わらずで、ホントいい音楽家ですね。デビュー作以降、どこから聞き始めても失敗ないでしょう。細分化されてしまった音楽ジャンルの壁を破りながら前へ進むＲｙａn、だけど、「＆デッド・ホーセズ」も魅力的なんだけどな。

いやぁ、これはいいですわ！初めて聴いた2作目のレビューで「純度高めの酔いどれロック」なんてレビューを書いたんだが、なんか大きく成長したなぁって実感できる、充実の4作目です。　　T・ボーン・バーネットを迎えてリリースした前作「Junky Star」は、トラッドフォークが色濃く漂うアメリカーナな雰囲気フンプンで、色んな筋から高い評価を得てビルボードでも19位と大成功を収めた作品だった。ただ自分には「良くも悪くもT・ボーン」という、“ラフ＆ルーズ”など微塵もない、カチッとまとめあげった音像の中、地味〜なトーンで終始貫かれられた作品で、ちょっと苦手な作風だったんですよ。これは好みなんで仕方ないんだけど、やっぱ、ギターがガツンと鳴らされたアメロクが欲しいんですよね。なもんで、今作のような「酔いどれロック」は大歓迎！　前作の成功に浮かれることなく、自主レーベルを立ち上げてのセルフ・プロデュース。心中をうかがい知ることはできないけど、よほど気するものがあったんだろうか、「ラフ＆ルーズ」なギターロックなんだけど、突っ散らかったとこなどまったくない、焦点の定まった作品で、エモーショナルに迫りくるボーカルと雄弁に語りかけるギターが堪らないです。6分超の大作4曲（内1曲は8分超）含む、全13曲63分。「成功から来る漲る自信」＋「ラフ＆ルーズな酔いどれギターロック」＋「T・ボーン流プロダクションワーク」が高い次元で融合した、彼のターニングポイントになりそうな傑作！

Wollte heute nur mal sehen, ob es inzwischen ein Live-Album von RB gibt - und bin erschrocken ob der wenigen und dann auch noch schlechten Rezensionen.Leute...Gut, nach den ersten drei Alben, mit denen sich Bingham von den ruhigen Songs hin zu den rauen und rockigeren entwickelt hat, darf jeder Fan seine Erwartungshaltung haben und auch enttäuscht werden.Ich dagegen war beglückt - allein das Stück Western Shore. O Mann! Setzt am besten einen guten Kopfhörer auf und hört euch nur mal den Anfang an. Ich meine GANZ den Anfang: der weiche Ton (vom Mellotron?), in dessen Hall hinein der polyphone Aufbau des Stücks beginnt, bis Binghams Gänsehaut-Stimme einsetzt und uns hypnotisch entführt. Ähnlich auch das gut acht Minuten lange Rising Of The Ghetto.Zugegeben, es hat auch bei mir eine Weile gedauert, bis ich die Feinheiten in der Instrumentierung von Tomorrowland erschließen konnte. Geholfen dabei hat sicher auch, dass ich RB Live erleben durfte und sah, wie neben Bingham dieses Genie Greg Leisz hintergründig an der Gitarre tüftelte und feine Fäden sponn, deren Tiefe die einzelnen Songs erst zu Meisterwerken macht, sie zum Leuchten bringt.Über das eine oder andere Stück ließe sich trefflich streiten, beispielsweise das leicht psychedelic angehauchte Guess Who's Knocking. Bewertung 2,5 SterneHatte große Erwartungen an das vierte Ryan Bingham-Album, vielleicht zu große und daher fällt die Enttäuschung auch umso größer aus. Dass es rockiger werden wird, hatte ich erwartet und war auch vorher bekannt. Und mit Rock habe ich an sich auch gar kein Problem, aber dieses Album hat mit dem Ryan Bingham, den ich seit seinem Debut-Album Mescalito so geschätzt und lieb gewonnen habe, nicht mehr sehr viel gemeinsam. Da ist natürlich noch immer diese einmalige, markante Stimme. Was aber fehlt sind diese unwiderstehlichen Melodien, die die Vorgängeralben noch ausgemacht haben. Vielleicht liegt es auch am Fehlen der Dead Horses, der Backing-Band, die RB diesen markanten Sound verpasst hat. Vielleicht liegt es aber auch am Produzenten Justin Stanley, der dem Album einen Hauch von Bob Dylan verpasst hat. Ein Marc Ford war mir da deutlich lieber.Es geht ordentlich los mit „Beg for Broken Lies“. Das rockt so, wie ich es mir von einem RB-Rocksong erwartet und erhofft habe (trotz der m. E. überflüssigen Keyboard-oder-was-auch-immer-Einlagen). Aber bereits der zweite Song „Western Shore“, der so verheißungsvoll semiakustisch und kraftvoll beginnt, wird zum Ende hin schlichtweg … langweilig und der Wall-of-Sound passt auch hier überhaupt nicht zu RB! „Flower Bomb“ ist mir etwas zu belanglos, aber OK, „Guess who's Knocking“ dagegen geht gar nicht, der schwächste Song, ein Blues-Rocker, den ich skippen muss. „Heart of Rhythm“ beginnt tatsächlich wie ein Springsteen-Song, sehr rockig, gefällt mir ganz gut, ohne mich vollends zu überzeugen. „I heard them say“ erinnert mich anfangs an Jimi Hendrix. Noch so ein OK-Song, nicht mehr. „Rising of the Ghetto“ beginnt sehr atmosphärisch mit akustischen Gitarren und steigert sich zu einem weiteren Wall-of-Sound-Song, erinnert ein wenig an einen Voodoo- oder Indianertanz. Hier fehlt mir einfach die Melodie, hat keinen Wiedererkennungswert, sollte vielleicht ein epischer Song werden - ist leider voll daneben gegangen. Mit „No Help from God“ gibt es die einzige echte Ballade des Albums, ganz nett, aber weit entfernt von der Qualität eines „The Weary Kind“. „Keep it together“, ein eher langsamer Song, ohne eine Ballade zu sein. Einer der besten Songs des Albums. „Never far behind“ gefällt mir auch ganz gut, ein Midtempo-Rocker. Endlich eine Melodie, die auch mal ins Ohr geht. Ganz klar der neben „Neverending Show“ beste Song des Albums. „The Road I'm on“ ist auch OK, countryrockig, kommt insgesamt aber auch nicht an die vielen bis dato großartigen RB-Songs ran. Wie schon erwähnt ist „Neverending Show“ der für mich beste Song des Albums, vielleicht weil er sich noch am ehesten wie ein „alter“ RB-Song anhört. Schön countrytesk im Stile von „Southside of Heaven“. Erinnert stark an Bob Dylan. Zum Schluss gibt es noch ein ganz nettes, aber dann doch auch wieder etwas belangloses „Too Deep to Fill“, ein akustisch gehaltener Country-Song.Insgesamt ist die zweite Hälfte des Albums besser als die erste Hälfte. Überzeugen tut mich das Album allerdings leider nicht, nichts bleibt hängen, keine einzige Melodie. Freue mich dennoch auf das Konzert, denn live ist wieder eine ganz andere Geschichte.Noch ein Wort zum Booklet: Auf solch ein Booklet kann man getrost verzichten! Was soll so etwas? Da sind zwar die Texte irgendwie abgedruckt, allerdings so wirr, dass man schnell aufgibt, die einzelnen Worte in einen logischen Zusammenhang zu bringen. Zu den Texten kann ich daher nicht viel sagen, außer dass sie wohl etwas politischer sind als die der letzten Alben.Musikalisch gebe ich dem Werk zwischen 2 bis 3 Sterne. Obwohl das Gesamtpaket (Produktion, Songwriting, Verpackung) nicht überzeugt, runde ich doch auf, nachdem ich RB vor zwei Tagen live gesehen habe und feststellen durfte, dass die Songs gar nicht so schlecht sind, wenn sie ordentlich produziert und der ganze Wall-of-Sound-Schnick-Schnack, der m. E. nicht zu RB passt, weggelassen worden wären.
