Follow one day in the real lives of seven kids from around the world! This informative and fascinating illustrated book is perfect for learning how children live across the globe. In Japan, Kei plays Freeze Tag, while in Uganda, Daphine likes to jump rope. While the way they play may differ, the shared rhythm of their days—and this one world we all share—unites them. From Italy, Japan, Iran, and India to Peru, Uganda, and Russia, author Matt Lamonthe transports readers across the globe and back with this luminous and thoughtful picture book. Getting a glimpse into everyday routines across the culture map provides a window into traditions that may be different from our own as well as mirrors reflecting our common experiences. GEOGRAPHY FOR KIDS: Children who love learning about new cultures and customs will find a world of fascination in these pages. From food to sports to daily chores, this wonderful nonfiction book for kids features delightful illustrations that are accompanied, in a final section, by photographs of the featured children with their families. THE WAY THINGS WORK: Inspired by his own travels, author-illustrator Matt Lamonthe created this entertaining resource to educate children on the importance of similarities and differences, and to give them a unique look into the lives and everyday routines of other kids on earth. ORDINARY PEOPLE CHANGE THE WORLD: A little history of the world shows us that the importance of interconnectedness cannot be underestimated. This book is a treasure that combines the best of children's picture books with a taste of cultural studies sized just right for young readers. Great Book!
I bought this book for my grandson and he loves it so much I bought one for my nephew. The book is a learning tool for children to help them understand how children from around the world live. I definitely recommend this book!

I love this book--and my kids like it too
I love this book--and my kids like it too. It goes beyond the ordinary country comparisons (for example, only one of the kids lives in a capitol city, so you don't just get "Jean lives in Paris and eats baguettes") and it's full of the nitty-gritty details that fascinate kids. My son is amazed that kids in Peru drink coffee. The families are economically as well as ethnically diverse, but the book doesn't make a big deal about how "diverse" it is. It describes without comment families with 8 children who sleep next to each other on boards and families with two children who have their own rooms, families that eat basically the same thing three meals per day, and families that don't. We have the Kindle version but I'd like to get paper version some day because the illustrations are rich and beautifully colored.

my 5 and 6 year olds LOVE this book!!
I had this book on my wish list for quite awhile and went back and forth as to whether I'd get it or not. I did get it and wish I had got it sooner. We don't have a lot of money to travel but we are being very diligent in trying to raise our kids with a broad understanding of the world we live in and realistic ideas of what life is like in other countries for other kids. My 6 year old son and 5 year old daughter LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!! ...and we have a lot of good kids' books in our home library. They flipped the pages back and forth a lot to see the map/kids' profiles when we first got it but now they have the entire book pretty much memorized and still can't get enough of it. My daughter especially loves it enough to want to sleep with it. She saw me writing this review, saw the little picture of the book and said "There's my book!!! That's my favorite book!!"

Great book although a bit hard to follow!
Great book describing different children around the world and their everyday lives! It doesn’t read like a typical reading book (front to back) but it requires the reader to constantly flip the pages to remember which child each description belongs to. My little one loved the last page where it showed actual photos of the children with their families.

I LOVE THIS BOOK
I LOVE THIS BOOK. Just putting it my classroom library next year will provide an excellent opportunity for students to develop social studies concepts. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying it myself! It is absolutely beautiful, and worth going back to again and again. (Those are the best classroom books!) In addition to the detailed artwork depicting how each child spends each part of his or her day, the book includes a photo of each child and their families, and a map to show where they live. I like the author's note and biographical information at the end. He tells how he compiled the information for making the book, and he outlines his own day. He is almost another character, an inspiring one! Thanks, Matt, for the writing idea for my students!

An awesome book! Every kid needs to read this. It teaches them that there are other kids just like them living in other parts of the world.

My 4 year old LOVES this book! It shows images of 7 children from all over the world in their daily routine! What they eat, where they live, how they dress, how they play, their family members etc... It's wonderfully relatable to my daughter!

Very cute book - perfect for showing children how other children around the world live.
This is a perfect picture led book for school aged children. The fantastic illustrations show daily life of a selection of seven to eleven year olds from around the world (Iran, Italy, India, Japan, Peru, Russia and Uganda). We can compare different buildings the children live in, what they eat, what they wear, how they travel to school, what their class rooms look like and how they relax after school. This book is perfect for helping young school aged children to discover how children around the world live. The main text is short and simple, so this book would work for age 5+ (especially if being read to). Just when I thought that this was a wonderful work of fiction based on general facts, at the end of the book are photographs of the children from the book with their families. Wonderful stuff!

Bonito libro
