Can they be left permantly connected to USB and still useable?

They still work permanently connected, but as the other gentleman said, not sure what effect it will have on the battery life. It says in the product description that it detects when the battery is fully charged and stops charging it. If that is true, then it is a proper battery management system and therefore should last for as many charges as the seller suggests. Only time will tell!! But always look on the bright side (pun intended).

Can I order several lights and pair them to one remote or can I only pair one remote to one light?

One remote control can control up to 10 lights, but you need to pair the same remote control with each light individually, thank you.

Can anyone help me if I can paint them, I need to be golden but can't find them anywhere?

I don't see why you can't use a good metal spray paint on them. I've just be tempted to leave the top black in case it affects the touch sensor
