Q: How do you tell threads per inch on existing bike? That's more than just the width of the bottom bracket.

threads per inch has nothing to do with the width, it is the threading of the crank. 24 or 28 is common, easiest way is to buy both and return the one that's wrong.

Q: What size stem does this go with

This is a bottom bracket, not for a stem.

Q: The bearing retainer hooks are not evenly closed. Some balls have more play/room/movement than others. Is this intentional? should the hooks be even?

the ball bearings should not be so lose that they fall out of the retainers or if you shake them a little bit . if so press the hooks in a little to retain the ball. shouldnt make a helluva difference anyway since the old style didnt have retainers at all and the balls would be retained by the grease and cup edges as you tightened the slotted retainer. didnt notice this when i installed this bracket set in my sons 64 murray coaster brake single speed 26 inch bike. make sure you clean the bike bracket insides carefully , get rid of all the sand and grit. and grease the cups and bearings well before you and as you reassemble. over the next few days of riding the bike adjust the slotted disk. not too tight, just enough to take any slop out of crank inandout. you may have to redo this 2-3 times. murray has been running fine for many months now. regards bob f

Q: Will this fit a 20" boys huffy bike?

I am not 100% sure. I bought this for my station bike.However, I did feel that the set on my son's bike (20"?) looks very much the same as this.I would suggest that you try to take the one out of the 20" bike then compare the pictures here.My station bike actually has more balls in the bracket, but the size of the wheel fits this perfectly.Good luck!
