what is the weight of this block?

HiIt's about 5.5 lbs.Best,Shenzhen Knives (TAF International)

What are the dimensions of the base (the space it would take up on my countertop)?

11 inches and 3/4 long with a slant, 8 inches and 1/2 high and 5inches and 1/2 wide, I don't think it takes up much space at all and I would buy this again if need be,

How wide is the largest slot?

I just measured the largest slot with a tool for exact measurements. It is the very top (Right) slot if you are facing the knife block. Mine measured 3.25 (3-1/4) inches by .25 (1/4) inches wide. These are INSIDE DIMENSIONS. The depth easily and nicely holds the whole length of my wider 8 inch Chef knife blade.

is this solid bamboo or bamboo veneer

Hi:It's bamboo veneer with a hardwood finish. It's in the product features.Best,Shenzhen Knives Team
