Tried this for shucking oysters at home and it actually worked pretty well. The knife feels sturdy and has a good grip, so it doesn’t slip around while you’re applying pressure. I’m not a pro at opening oysters, but this made it a lot easier and felt pretty safe to use. Definitely better than trying to use random kitchen tools. Takes a little practice if you’ve never done it before, but once you get the hang of it, it works great. Overall a solid tool if you plan on opening oysters yourself.

I'VE POPPED OPEN A LOT OF OYSTERS IN MY DAY AND ALWAYS WONDERED WHEN I WAS GOING TO GET BETTER AT IT. WELL THERE'S AN OLE SAYING, IN A CRAFT MANS WORLD,"USE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB." WELL MY OLD OYSTER KNIFE HAD BEEN HANDED DOWN FROM MY DAD, NOW PASSED TWENTY YEARS, AND IT WAS GETTING A LITTLE RICKETY. WOOD HANDLED AND A LOT OF USE THE BLADE WAS STARTING TO TURN IN THE HANDLE MAKING IT KIND OF A RUSSIAN ROULETTE. YOU NEVER QUITE NEW WHAT WAS GOING TO OPEN FIRST, THE OYSTER OR SOME SECTION OF YOUR HAND. I FINALLY BROKE DOWN AND AFTER SOME RESEARCH DECIDED ON THIS BLADE. WELL, THE ANSWER TO MY AGE OLD QUESTION WAS SOON ANSWERED. I BECAME A PROFESSIONAL OYSTER SHUCKER WITH THE FIRST TURN OF THIS BLADE. THE OYSTER POPPED IT'S HINGE LIKE NOTHING! THE LONG BLADE AND LARGE EASY TO GRIP HANDLE MAKES IT EASY TO PART THE BIVALVES OF EVEN HUGE OYSTERS. CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT THIS BLADE. SO FAR I'VE ONLY OPENED ABOUT THREE DOZEN OYSTERS WITH THIS KNIFE, BUT IT SHOWS NO SIGNS OF DINGED BADE OR ANY OTHER DAMAGE. THE SPINE OF THE BLADE IS STOUT. I THINK WE ARE GOING TO BE FRIENDS FOR A VERY LONG TIME. THE GLOVES, YEAH THEY'RE GREAT ESPECIALLY FOR BEGINNERS. I WOULD STILL RECOMMEND THEM FOR OLE TIMERS TOO, ESPECIALLY AFTER SOME FINE BEVERAGE TO WASH YOUR SEAFOOD FARE DOWN. ONE FINE BLADE,GOTTA GO, GETTIN HUNGRY!!

This is a great item. The glove really did helped protect my hands. Shucking the oysters was so easy. I was done with a dozen in no time.

The gloves are somewhat good for preventing cuts because of the kevlar, but not so much from piercing. The best part is the knife/oyster tool. It is the best on the market, you have way better control and grip so much less chances to slip trough and get to your hand. Review from my dad!!
