What are the small parts? I'm thinking of this for my 1.5yo

well small as in the rings for the stick. i think it is to small for a 1 year old since it isn't a developmental toy for infants. it's more of a 6-7 year old so they can learn about magnets... I use it more for fidgetting

Are these magnets poled on each face?

Yes, north south, and you can make them bounce putting same poles together.. grandsons love them, 5,7,10 .. great fun!

I like these magnetic rings for the kids (5 & 3) to start learning some science concepts. They caught on really quickly and the cards certainly help in explaining why the magnets attract or repel, and my kids can easily copy the patterns on the cards. They arrived really quickly and were as described except I thought they'd be a bit bigger, but that isn't a problem.

This was a hit with a wide range of ages -- 3-14, all enjoyed it and found a lot of ways to play with it beyond the puzzles. Magnets are coated in plastic and feel quite sturdy. Great product.
