Game of Thrones: The Complete Fifth Season (Blu-ray)

+++Warning, this contains spoilers from the prior season, but no major season five spiolers+++ The fifth season of GoT was adapted from parts of three different novels in the Song of Ice and Fire series, namely, A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons, and a Storm of Swords. Of course, the show started catching up with the books (as George R.R. Martin is a notoriously slow writer) and the producers and writers of the show were doing their best to get as much material from the books before they would have to essentially make the rest of the story up with just a rough outline from Martin. This season sees a shift in many of the story arcs of the various characters. After the deaths of Joffrey and Tywin (finally) Varys and Tyrion flee Westeros to Meereen to meet Daenerys, whom Varys believes may be worthy of the Iron Throne. Jon is torn between an offer from Stannis and his duty to the Night's Watch, with the ever-increasing threat of the White Walkers looming, and Sansa goes from one bad situation to another. Cersei is basically ruling as a transition from Joffrey to Tommen, who is now set to marry Margaery Tyrell, which does not exactly thrill Cersei. Jaime and Bronn travel to Dorne to bring Myrcella back to King's Landing and have to deal with a revenge-seeking Ellaria. Arya sails to Braavos to attempt to cash in on her mystical coin to learn from Jaqen H'ghar. The season ends on numerous cliffhangers that leave the fate of nearly every single main character in some kind of doubt and/or jeopardy. For those who get the blu-ray set, the A/V quality is again top-notch. As far as extras go, as has been the case with the prior seasons, each episode has an in-episode guide that can be played, a recap at the beginning of the episodes, and a preview at the end. There are twelve different commentary tracks. Every episode except episode seven gets at least one commentary track with various members of the cast along with the director and/or writer of the episode. Episodes eight and nine each have multiple commentary tracks (three, and two respectively). Then there are a series of behind-the-scenes and making-of featurettes that range in length from just under eight minutes to just under thirty minutes. There are also some animated shorts that feature voice work by the actors in character, then there is an animated Dance With Dragons animated feature that outlines the Targaryen civil war, and finally about eight minutes of deleted scenes. So, there are again a ton of extras if you like going through them, but like in the prior season releases, to go through everything you will have to watch each episode multiple times, so it may be helpful to pick and choose what you watch. Overall, the season is very good. The storyline advances well, and like in prior seasons no character is safe from the possibility of being killed off, which makes for a lot of edge-of-your-seat suspense. It is very violent and has a lot of sex and nudity in it, so it is most definitely not a family-friendly show (or something that someone that is easily offended would go for). That said, it is very well acted and mostly well-written. Of course, because it is an adaptation of extremely long books, there are some storylines in the books (and many characters) that never appear in the series. This season, I would say the standouts among the cast are Iwan Rheon who plays Ramsay Bolton, Sophie Turner whose character arc is greatly expanded this season, and Maisie Williams. That said, the entire cast nails all of their characters and do an extremely good job. So, if you have been a fan of the first four seasons, you will very likely enjoy the fifth season. If you have not yet seen the series, you definitely have to start at episode one and watch all the way through, otherwise, almost nothing will make sense if you jump into the series over halfway through.

I bought this mainly for the collectible steelbook and magnet. — MULTIPLE COPIES — You get three different copies of the series: 1) Blu-ray (physical discs) 2) UltraViolet 1080p HD version (digital copy, HD only available on some devices) 3) iTunes 1080p HD version (digital copy) The digital code gives you two digital versions (which is rare and appreciated). — STEELBOOK and MAGNET — This steelbook has artwork designed by Elastic, the agency that created the Emmy Award-winning opening credits, and has a magnet on the cover that can be removed and used as a regular magnet, or left on to show off as a collector's piece. Each season represents one of the major houses of the series, and this season five steelbook represents the slave city of Meereen, with the House Targaryen sigil on the magnet. The steelbook is in a matching decorative plastic outer case that holds the magnet in place so it doesn't scratch the steelbook. The outer plastic case is thicker than the previous four seasons (which was easy to crack). — THE SHOW — The show is great—in acting, in storytelling, in visuals, in music, and in writing. I've watched everything at least three times, and there are so many new things you see when re-watching, and with the knowledge of future episodes. The fifth season follows the journey of our favorite characters in new settings. Saying any of their names would constitute a spoiler, as you would know who survives, so I'm keeping it vague. One of this season's highlights is the meeting of two strong characters; sparks are instant and the game changes. There are also episodes directed by David Nutter (of The X-Files fame), who directs two very thrilling episodes. Lastly, the finale makes us feel so many feels; it all builds up to something we think we know how we'll react to, but it gets the completely opposite reaction. I have converted many friends who previously used to think this was about "dungeons and dragons and lord of the rings," (like I did) who are now *all* addicted to the show. If you don't already know, this show isn't about what you think it may be about. This is currently THE only good show on television, and if you don't like it, you probably don't understand good television (sorry, not sorry). It has been the number one torrented show in every single year since it came out for a reason (which is a blessing and curse for the producers). After watching this, everything else on TV becomes: "why I am watching all these other crappy shows?" This is one of those series that I will buy the individual season sets, and whatever big box set comes out in the future. GAME OF THRONES! Recommended.

I've become a big fan of Game of Thrones. The early seasons tended to be a bit on the "risque" side... partially because HBO wanted that (to sell a new series people might not ready for) and partly (and appropriately) to point out the DECADENCE of the "Seven Kingdoms" and many of the main characters (in all cases, so far, to illustrate how they change over time... see, for example, Tyrion Lannister) This may have been the best season of the series so far... and that's saying a lot. We're finally seeing things coming together... all the prior seasons have been setup, and rising-action, and how we're into the meat of the story. Which, ultimately, is going to be "how do the seven kingdoms unite, and thus are able to defeat the White Walkers?" Well, we see now. We have had the "setup" characters removed, for the most part. We now see which sides people will fall onto, and we know who is going to sit on the iron throne when it's all said and done. We know that the "fire" in this "song" is Dani and her dragons (and while she's going to ride one of them into battle, there are two other dragons who still lack riders... my guess is that the other riders will be Tyrion and Jon, but time will tell) At the end of this season, Dani seems to be lost... but we see that she's going back to her original storyline (which opens up things for some very interesting developments in Season 6). Jon seems to be "lost" as well, but we've seen people come back from the dead in this series before... both in good ways and in bad ones... and never forget, those on the wall never get to leave until they die... so this is the only way that Jon can leave the wall without being an oathbreaker! Aria Stark is clearly on a very dark road... with the questions posed in this season, and how the season ends for her, all about "who she is" and more importantly "who she wants to be." I think we can all tell that she won't remain part of the "faceless men" sect forever, but she's learning things that will make her a formidable force in the future (whether for good or for evil, though, we can't be certain, can we?) Sansa Stark's story is very, VERY dark... and has been from the middle of the first season, if you were paying attention. She's lost all of her innocence now, and while she SEEMS to be on the side of "good," I have strong misgivings about her as well... I can imagine her eventually becoming a major villain, taking the role currently filled by "Littlefinger" (who I'm convinced is the real "big bad" behind everything we've seen go wrong in this series!) What remains unclear is... where does Jaimie Lannister fall into the grand scheme of things? We're being given hints that he may well become one of the major heroes, though I personally suspect he'll simply redeem himself by ridding us of a major threat, sacrificing himself in the bargain. We see the end of the "War of the Kings" this season... Stannis Baratheon, Renly Baratheon, Rob Stark, Mance Rayder... all gone. There is, once again, only one throne. And that throne, at this point, is held by a weak, easily manipulated (albeit nice) boy. We can all see where this is going... a full-on "cold war" between the "High Sparrow" and Circe Lannister. The boy king will not end up in charge in any case, and will undoubtedly be a casualty, regardless of which of the two wins in the end. Which will set us up for the inevitable "rising action" of the Seven Kingdoms, under either the Sparrow or Circe, being invaded by Dani and her newly re-acquired Dothraki hoard, along with all her other forces (including her three dragons). And then, to the final climactic conflict where the White Walkers will be defeated (and, I presume, they'll start getting annual summers and winters!)

**NO SPOILERS OR PLOT POINTS DISCUSSED** This review will only be for my opinion of the season overall, and the packaging, extras, and video/audio quality. Let me start by saying that Game of Thones is one of my favorite shows of all-time. The story is brutal and tragic, yet engrossing and compelling. The characters are wonderfully written, and everything from character motivations to the dialogue and action sequences are superb. The show also has top notch production values, as the environment, props, and wardrobes look magnificent. GOT is a beauty. The packaging is awesome, as it has been on all of the season blu rays. The discs are in flip book, which go into a sleeve, which has a plastic sleeve over top of it all. This season has gold and brown artwork, which looks lovely. Very happy with the packaging. All 10 episodes this season are included on 4 blu rays. Extras include in episode guides, histories and lore, audio commentaries, deleted scenes, and a plethora of behind the scenes featurettes. The episodes look amazing on blu ray. The 1080p really shines on this series, and everything look breathtakingly beautiful. The characters, scenery, wardrobes, etc all look excellent. The 5.1 audio is great too. The score is brilliant and the metal swords and armor clanging sound great. Sound and Video are easy 10/10. Overall this is another solid season in this great series. I enjoyed every episode, and always recommend this show to anyone I talk to about movies/tv. What else can I say? Game of Thrones gets my highest recommendation, and the blu ray sets are glorious. My review is specific regarding a problem I encountered when trying to access the commentary tracks of the episodes. Never had a problem playing the commentary tracks for any other Blu-ray title, among dozens of others. I tried changing to the commentary track during playing of each episode using the menu, tried selecting it from the menu before playback - nothing worked. For those owners of the "Game of Thrones: Season 5 Blu-ray" who have an issue of being unable to access the commentary tracks on the Blu-ray episodes, the solution for my particular BD player, an OPPO BDP-103 came from OPPO's tech support: "If the Audio Commentary tracks are to be played over the normal audio, then before inserting the disc you will need to set Secondary Audio to ON under Audio Format Setup. Please note that this will lower the quality of audio (in general) from Blu-rays, so you will want to disable it when not in use." This solved the problem for my Blu-ray player, which by default had the Secondary Audio set to 'OFF'. The commentary tracks are definitely on the discs, as I've now listened to several entire episodes with the various writers, directors, and actors sharing their experiences. Checking to see if your Blu-ray player's Secondary Audio feature is 'ON' in the player's setup may be the solution for those that encounter a problem accessing the episode commentary. Oddly, I didn't need this player feature enabled for any of the dozens of other Blu-ray titles with commentary tracks just to hear them. The "Game of Thrones: Season 5 Blu-ray" is another good addition to my library but the way the discs were authored seems a bit unconventional compared with many other Blu-ray movies I own. Not sure why they just didn't have the commentary as an ordinary alternate audio track, rather than a Second Audio type of track.

Another great season of Game Of Thrones 👍👍10/10

The film of course is great. The package is cool, but the function of the package is down right bad. The cool magnet that comes with the steelbook is neat for the idea, but the magnet is basically useless in that it slides right off. The discs themselves are hard to read (horrible printing) and they feel like they are going to crack when you try to remove them from the case. Again, looks outstanding, but function is a 1-star. Of course I give a 4-star for the simple fact that the included downloaded HD video is worth it all.

I'm not going to speak on the content of the product itself, as many other reviewers have done some with great detail. I'm more concerned my first (of two) purchases of this product, which appears to be counterfeit. A list of things to watch out for when buying: -The exterior blue where it says Blu Ray on the outside was the wrong tone, and did not also say Digital HD, vs the real copy which did. -The slipcase artwork paper shows color banding and indicates it is a reprint, not the original printer quality. -The inner guide booklet is clearly reprinted - the words are muddier and less clear - and on cheaper paper. -The inner paperwork did not include the ultraviolet paperwork, or any other HBO or George R. R. Martin merchandise insets. -The clear disc cases don't match the other seasons - rounded corners, the Blu Ray logo is in the wrong place, etc. -The discs themselves have muddy or hard to read and misaligned print on them. The reflective cutouts of the letters don't match the printed letters. -The discs are clearly burned discs - you can see the circle of burned data and area of blank data on the disc. Real discs show all silver on the bottom and are pressed, not burned. -The actual content on the discs is shrunk - an episode (pull it up with a tool on the PC) is normally 10-14 GB. Episodes 9 & 10 of my fake were 6-7 GB each. -The fake Blu Rays did not include either any AACS protection or lower than it should be - the licensed proprietary digital encryption of the Blu Rays. Season 3 was AACS 42, Season 4 was AACS 50, and Season 5 on the proper copy is AACS 57. The fake was not AACS 57. Please watch out for third party sellers. They themselves may not even know their product is fake. My vendor has a 100% satisfactory rating, and the product is new as of this posting, so likely whoever sold it to him is the one at fault, but I can't say for certain. I am returning that copy after I take comparative photos of the two sets, and my second one came directly from Amazon, 100% fine. Be careful!

I read Book 5 Dance with Dragons while I watched Season 5 on Blu-ray. It is hard to criticize the TV series because there is so much more in the books than it would be possible to bring to the screen, and overall the producers/writers/directors have done a good job of bringing the characters to life; however, I was disappointed with some of the changes made from the books and it scares me a little that Season 6 was created without the benefit of a Book 6 yet to be written. I highly recommend reading books 1 - 5 first and then watching the videos, but where the Season 6 TV series will fit with George R.R. Martin's own story is yet to be seen.

À voir absolument ! Cette saison 5 de Game of Thrones est tout aussi explosive, passionnante, haletante.. que les autres. Game of Thrones... Il s'agit d'une des plus belles séries jamais réalisées à notre époque. Chaque élément de film est méticuleusement mis en place... Le décors est soigneusement mis en valeur. Les effets sont splendides et bien ajustés. On nous donne encore tant de vues absolument magnifiques, des visuels tellement étudiés afin qu'ils délivrent toute une partie du sens à l'histoire, et ce en plus de la bande sonore. Celle-ci est tout à fait indispensable pour une compréhension plus affinée. Les vibrations à travers les enceintes du Home Cinéma sont divines pour transmettre ces frissons lors d'évènements grandioses ou percuttants. Et cette saison finit encore bien trop vite... C'est drammatique :-} Le coffret contient 4 Blu-ray. Le boîtier glisse par le bas de l'emballage de présentation. Sur les disques, l'audio français est d'amblée disponible et le menu, présent et accessible.

Bei manchen Serien wird ein unheimlicher Aufwand getrieben, um die Fans bei der Stange zu halten. Fraglos ist der finanzielle und gestalterische Aufwand aktuell (April 2016) bei keiner Serie je so groß gewesen wie bei "Game Of Thrones". Die fünfte Staffel sollte dabei erneut Maßstäbe setzen und Rekorde brechen. Kann das Ergebnis nach wie vor überzeugen ? === So kam ich zu dieser Staffel === Bei Amazon bestellte ich das aus insgesamt 5 DVDs bestehende Set aller 10 Folgen der fünften Staffel "Game Of Thrones" für 24,99 €. Das sind immerhin schon einmal 3 € weniger als der Vorverkaufspreis ergab... == Game Of Thrones - Staffel 5 (2015) == === Darum geht es === Zu Beginn dieser Staffel ergibt sich ein Machtvakuum, das die Protagonisten in Westeros und Essos unbedingt füllen wollen: In der Schwarzen Festung versucht Jon Snow die Forderungen der Nachtwache und jene des gerade eingetroffenen Stannis Baratheon auszugleichen – Stannis stilisiert sich selbst zum rechtmäßigen König von Westeros und plant gleichzeitig einen Feldzug gegen das vom Verräter Roose Bolton besetzt gehaltene Winterfell, dem Stammsitz der Starks. Nach der Heirat ihres Sohnes, König Tommen, mit Margaery Tyrell scheint derweil in Königsmund der Einfluß von Königinmutter Cersei zu schwinden. Doch Cersei wäre nicht Cersei, wenn sie nicht mit einer Intrige dafür sorgen würde, dass sie sich nach wie vor als "eigentliche Herrscherin" der sieben Königslande sehen darf. Dabei nutzt sie die aufsteigende Macht einer sich in Königsmund verbreitenden, religiösen Gruppierung, die unter der Führung eines alten Mannes, der als der "Hohe Spatz" bezeichnet wird, für ihre Interessen. Indem sie diesen Mann als Septen einsetzt, so glaubt sie, kann sie durch ihn weiterhin die Geschicke steuern. Wenn diese Rechnung mal aufgeht.. Ihren Bruder und Vater ihrer Kinder, Jaime, hat sie derweil zusammen mit Ser Bronn nach Dorne geschickt, um ihre gemeinsame Tochter Mycella an den Hof von Königsmund zurück zu holen, nachdem sie von den dort regierenden Martells eine anonyme und unmissverständliche Drohung nach dem Tod von Oberyn erhalten hat. Derweil erreicht Arya die Stadt Braavos, um Schülerin des vielgesichtigen Gottes zu werden, während ihre Schwester Sansa Winterfell erreicht, wo sie nach Rat des sie begleitenden Ser Baelish ausgerechnet Ramsay Schnee, den durch König Tommen erst kürzlich "legalisierten" Sohn von Roose Bolton, heiraten soll. Der sadistische Ramsay ist zunächst sehr begeistert von Sansa, doch wie der wechsellaunige Psychopath eben gestimmt ist... Tyrion Lennister, auf der Flucht vor Cersei und den Häschern des Hauses Lennister, erreicht mit Hilfe von Ser Varis und einem weiteren "Bekannten" den Hof von Daenerys Targayen, um dieser seine Dienste anzubieten. Die kann Hilfe und Ratschläge bestens gebrauchen, denn nach der Eroberung der Sklavenstadt Meereen scheinen ihre Truppen und letztlich sie selbst immer mehr in Bedrängnis zu geraten. Sie merkt schnell, dass ihre schwache Herrschaftsposition in der Stadt einige schwere Opfer erfordert. === Wie im Buch, so in der Serie.... === Ein Merkmal von "Game Of Thrones" ist, dass - wie in den als Grundlage dienenden Büchern von Martin beschrieben - stets vielzählige, auf irgendeine Weise miteinander verbundene Handlungsstränge und Ereignisse parallel recht aufwändig präsentiert und dargestellt werden. Generell ist die Fantasy-Story von der Einbettung der Handlung her in gewisser Weise an das Mittelalter angelehnt - es gibt "Sers" und "Lords", Festungen, typische Windmühlen und Steinbrücken, Ritter und Kämpfer. Im Nachbarkontinent "Essos" gibt es dazu eher wüstenhafte Landschaften und Städte und Kulturen, die lose an jene der Griechen oder Römer aber auch vorderasiatischen, alten Kulturen erinnern. Dazu gesellen sich wenige, aber doch bedeutsame Elemente aus dem Fantasy-Bereich wie Drachen, schwarze (echte) Magie und Fabelwesen wie die "weißen Wanderer" in den eisigen Regionen nördlich der Mauer. Es bedarf also für jedermann, der diese Serie anschaut, sich in seinem Kopf erst einmal auf eine Unmenge von Charakteren und Geschichten, die mit diesen verbunden sind, einzustellen. Das fiel mir besonders bei Folge 1 dieser Staffel erst einmal schwer. Hier merkte ich erst einmal, wie lange es schon her war, dass ich die vierte Staffel gesehen hatte. So fiel mir erst nach und nach wieder ein, wer wie was warum so und nicht anders macht. Das liegt, wie erwähnt, wohl eher bei mir, denn die Macher haben es auch in Staffel 5 wieder sehr gut hin bekommen, dieses "Gewirr" aus Handlungssträngen, die stets konsequent und schlüssig teils ineinander überzuleiten oder neu verzweigen zu lasen. "Neue" Charaktere, die Gewicht in die Geschichte bringen, gibt es eigentlich in der fünften Staffel gar nicht einmal soviele - und das ist auch gut so, denke ich mal über die eh schon großzügig bemessene Zahl an Handlungssträngen und Charakteren nach, die ich in "Game Of Thrones" kennengelernt habe. Freilich ist der Herr des Hauses des "vielgesichtigen Gottes" schon eine recht eindrucksvolle Gestalt. Der rätselhafte Kult um diesen nicht minder merkwürdigen Gott ist schon mehr als nur mysteriös, genauso, wie die übrigen "Diener" dieses Hauses, in welches Arya als Schülerin einzieht. Der "Hohe Spatz" ist ebenso so eine Figur, die nicht recht einzuordnen ist. Er scheint bescheiden und überaus gütig, dazu fast ein wenig naiv zu sein - so scheint Cersei auch zu denken, in diesem "Mann der Götter" habe sie einen leicht zu beeinflussenden Spielpartner in ihrem Machtpoker um ihre Position in Königsmund zur Hand. Doch der "hohe Spatz" ist im Kern ein "Überzeugungstäter", fast als "religiöser Fundamentalist" zu sehen, der sich streng an die "Gebote der Sieben" hält und entsprechend handelt - was auch Cersei noch erfahren soll. Anschließend an die vorhergehende Staffel ist es erneut Ramsay Schnee, pardon, jetzt dank König Tommen offiziell "Ramsay Bolton", der erneut - neben Cersei - wohl das "Scheusal" dieser Serie bleibt. Wir lernten diesen garstigen Zeitgenossen ja schon ausführlich durch seine sadistische Behandlung von Theon Graufreud kennen, den er nur noch "Stinker" nennt. Keine Frage Typ ist wohl einer der übelsten Psychopathen der ganzen Serie überhaupt, und da gibt es schon einige wirklich fiese Zeitgenossen. Der Stoff der literarischen Vorlage weicht in Staffel 5 erneut zusehend vom filmischen Inhalt ab - es scheint so, als planten die Macher dieses "Knäuel" an Handlungssträngen langsam, aber sicher ein wenig zu entwirren zu wollen - das ist aber nur mein Eindruck und ich möchte aus Spannungsgründen an dieser Stelle nicht zuviel verraten. Dabei konzentrieren sich die Schauplätze vielfach auf bestimmte "Schwerpunkte" wie etwa Meereen, Königsmund, Dorne, die schwarze Festung oder Braavos. Dabei stehen auch wieder einige "Großkampfszenen" und Schlachten bevor, besonders in Folge 8 geht es dabei recht "hart" und heftig zur Sache. Dazu gibt es - nach bewährtem Rezept - erneut Verwicklungen, teils intriganter Natur, innerhalb der adligen Familien zu erleben. === Die Episoden dieser Staffel... === Auf jeder der fünf DVDs des Sets sind insgesamt je 2 Folgen der Staffel in englischer, deutscher , spanischer und französischer Sprache untergebracht. Zu jeder der Folgen gibt es auf Wunsch auch eine englischsprachige Kommentarspur verschiedener Darsteller, Mitwirkender und Regisseure der Folge oder STaffel zu erleben. Auf DVD 5 befindet sich darüber hinaus zusätzliches Bonusmaterial. * DVD 1: Episode 1: Die Kriege, die da kommen (The Wars To Come) / Episode 2: Das Haus von Schwarz und Weiß (The House Of Black And White) * DVD 2: Episode 3: Der Hohe Spatz (High Sparrow) / 4) Episode 4: Die Söhne der Harpyie (Sons Of The Harpy) * DVD 3: / Episode 5: Töte den Jungen (Kill The Boy) / Episode 6: Ungebeugt, Ungezähmt, Ungebrochen (Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken) * DVD 4: Episode 7: Das Geschenk (The gift) / Episode 8: Hartheim (Hardhome) * DVD 5: Episode 9: Der Tanz der Drachen (The Dance Of Dragons) / Episode 10: Die Gnade der Mutter (Mother’s Mercy) === Familien, Völker und Charaktereigenschaften === In der von George R.R. Martin als Vorlage gestalteten Fantasy-Welt von Westeros und Essos gibt es recht fein gewebte und detailliert vorgestellte Völker, Religionen und Charaktereinstellungen. Letztgenannte Kategorie ist dabei recht eng mit den verschiedenen Adelsfamilien verbunden. Die Starks z.B. sind aufrechte , ehrliche und treue Menschen, denen ihr Wort und ihre Ehre alles gilt. Sie sind im Norden Westeros ansässig und sind hier sehr angesehen. Die Lennisters dagegen kommen aus dem milderen Süden von Westeros und sind die reichste und einflußreichste Familie. Sie erachten Eigenschaften wie Ehre oder Gewissen eher als zweitrangig und sind beim Ränke schmieden zum eigenen Vorteil willen sehr beflissen. Durch Bündnisse und Fallen gelingt es ihnen, ihre Macht zu stärken. Die Tyrells, die zweitreichste Familie von Westeros, versuchen eher durch Charme und Schmeicheleien an Einfluß zu gewinnen und sind zum eigenen Vorteil auch ziemlich "flexibel" in ihren Handlungsweisen. === Religionen, Sex und Gewalt === Viele Religionen, allesamt basierend auf den Schöpfungen von G.R.R. Martin, teilen sich die Fantasy.-Welten von Westeros und Essos. In Staffel 5 gewinnt dieneue Religion des "Feuergottes" besonders bei Stannis Baratheon, einem Verwandten des verstorbenen Königs Robert Baratheon, endgültig die Überhand. In einer Art "Verzweiflungsaktion" ist er sogar bereit auf Anraten der "roten Frau", einer Priesterin des Feuergottes, seine eigene Tochter zu opfern ! Dagegen glauben besonders die Menschen der nördlichen Lande Westeros immer noch vielfach an die "sieben Götter" und den zugehörigen "sieben Höllen". In Königsmund sind sogar die sogenannten "Spatzen" im Aufstreben begriffen. Die "Spatzen" sind in der Serie ungefähr das, was die frommen, christlichen Asketen einst waren. Sie sind bemüht, die Ursprünge der Religion zu ergründen und haben sich selbst ein Leben unter Bekenntnis aller ihrer Sünden in Bescheidenheit gewählt. Doch wie für alle frommen Glaubensrichtungen gilt auch hier das Prinzip "einerseits-andererseits", denn besonders ihr Anführer, genannt der "hohe Spatz" , ist ein sehr fundamentalistisch eingestellter Glaubensvertreter, der dank Cersei gar zu einer leitenden Stellung als religiöser Anführer im "hohen Rat" aufsteigt. In der Darstellung von Sex und Gewalt ist die Serie auch in der fünften Staffel nicht gerade zimperlich. Gerade hier gab es seitens vieler Zuschauer sogar Beschwerden, als etwa Sansa Stark vom fiesen Ramsay vergewaltigt wird - was man aber, soviel sei gesagt, allenfalls akustisch erahnt und keinesfalls offen gezeigt bekommt. Mich ergriffen da andere Szenen deutlich mehr. Bei den durchaus zahlreich vorhandenen Gewaltszenen wurde ebenso deutlich in Schärfe draufgepackt. Folge 8 schießt für mich dabei schon den Vogel ab, es wird aber auch in der finalen Folge 10 schon recht drastisch. Ich fragte mich manchmal ernsthaft, wie die generelle Freigabe aller Folgen "ab 16 Jahren" dabei begründet wurde. Bei manchem Zweikampf wird selbstverständlich dabei auch einiges an Filmblut verschüttet. === Charaktere und Darsteller === Eigentlich ist es nicht ganz fair, einzelne Charaktere dieser Serie aus dem "Meer" an guten und vor allem auch typischen Darstellern herauszugreifen - dennoch ragen freilich die einen oder anderen aus der Handlung schon heraus. Mit Sicherheit zählt auch in Staffel 5 wieder Emilia Clarke zu dieser Kategorie, die als "Drachenkönigin" Daenerys Targaeyen überaus zu überzeugen versteht. In der Darstellung ihres stolzen und mutigen Charakters ist schon recht eindrucksvoll, wie überhaupt die in dieser Staffel geschilderten Ereignisse um ihren Charakter, Daenerys beweist nämlich wahre Größe, indem sie ihr Streben daran setzt, die von vielen Städten in Essos gehandelten Sklaven zu befreien.Sie stößt in dieser Staffel dabei deutlich auf Widerstand seitens der alteingesessenen, ehemaligen Sklavenbesitzer der von ihren Truppen besetzten Stadt Meereen, die sich zumindest teilweise in einem Geheimbund namens "Söhne der Harpyie" gegen ihre Regentschaft verschworen haben und - ähnlich Terrorkommandos - gegen sie und ihre Truppen teils offen rebellieren. Ein "Dauerbrenner" unter den Charakterlieblingen meinerseits ist dabei ebenso der kleinwüchsige Darsteller des Tyrion Lennister, Peter Dinklage. Mit seinem perfekt zu seinem Charakter passenden Spiel des gerne sarkastischen, zynischen und teils auch von sich eingenommenen Typen zählt er wohl absolut zu DEN Stars dieser Serie. Szenen, in denen es sich um "Tyrion" dreht, gehören stets zu meinen Lieblingsstellen. In Staffel 5 ist Tyrions Leben mehr als nur einmal bedroht. Tyrion, der schon seit seiner Geburt wegen seines Zwergwuchses von seinen Geschwistern und seinem Vater wenn nicht verachtet, so doch stets unterschätzt wurde, ist ein durchaus kluger, verschlagener, aber auch mitfühlender Geist. Nachdem er in Staffel 4 seinen Vater Tywin Lennister in einer absoluten Notsituation für sich selber mit einer Armbrust erschießen musste, ist er nun mit Hilfe von Ser Varys auf der Flucht vor seiner Schwester Cersei und deren Häschern. Ein hohes Kopfgeld ist auf ihn ausgesetzt und in seiner Verzweifelung gibt er sich gerne dem Wein hin. Nur Varys kann ihn bei Laune halten und überreden, durchzuhalten, denn schließlich führt die Flucht zu einer Person, die - so Varys - alles hat, um zum "wahren Herrscher" in Westeros aufzusteigen - und die nur einen weisen Berater an der Seite - wie eben Tyrion - benötigt. Seine Schwester Cersei (Lena Headey) hasst Tyrion mittlerweile nicht nur deswegen, weil sie nach ihrem Verständnis "mit seiner Geburt" ihre Mutter tötete, sondern - in Staffel 4 - auch noch ihren Vater tötete. I Wie erwähnt, ich könnte noch weitere bemerkenswerte und nicht minder stark agierende Charaktere anführen, bei meinen Vorstellungen handelt es sich nur um eine kleine Auswahl. == Zu den DVDs == === Bonusmaterial === Aufschlußreiches Bonusmaterial finde ich vor allem auf DVD 5 vor. Hier gibt es ein englischsprachiges, auf Wunsch mit einem deutschsprachigen Subtext untertitelbares Feature mit dem Titel "A Day in "Game Of Thrones" zu erleben. Dieses Feature zeigt anhand eines einzigen Produktionstages von Staffel 5, wieviel Aufwand betrieben wird. So finden erstmals insgesamt drei verschiedene Drehorte und - schwerpunkte in der Serie Verwendung. Während von Staffel 1 bis vier "nur" in Nordirland und Kroatien (Dubrovnik) gedreht wurde, ist in der fünften Staffel mit dem Alcazar von Sevilla (Spanien) noch ein dritter Drehort hinzu gekommen. Hier wurden die aufwändigen Szenen der "Wassergärten von Dorne" aufgenommen, außerdem kam die Stierkampfarena eines in der Nähe von Sevilla gelegenen Ortes für die Kampfszenen in der großen Arena von Meereen zum Einsatz, während die brutalen Szenen von "Hartheim" in einem kleinen, nordirischen , an einem See gelegenen Ort entstanden, der für diese Szenen aufwändig "aufgemöbelt" wurde. Insgesamt haben nach wie vor zwei Produktionsteams paralell an 120 Drehtagen gearbeitet, um die Staffel zu stemmen - dabei wurden 63 Mio. US-Dollar aufgewendet - soviel, wie für keine Staffel zuvor ! === Bild- und Tonqualität === Wie für eine TV-Produktion üblich, wurde die Staffel in 16:9 (anamorph) gedreht. Das Bild ist so bildschirmfüllend auf meinem 16:9 TV zu erleben. Der Sound der in Dolby Digital 5.1 gemasterten, deutschen Tonspur braucht sich dagegen hinter dem "Sound" von "richtigen" Kinoproduktion keinesfalls zu verstecken. Toll , weil herrlich plastisch klingen die von Dany angeführten Drachen - aber auch die Kampfszenen klingen stets sehr füllig. Zweifellos sind viele Szenen dieser Staffel teils schwer verdaulich, auch , wenn ich mir vergegenwärtige, dass alles nur Fiktion ist. Dabei verstehe ich manche zu Protokoll gegebene Aufregung von Fans bestimmten Szenen gegenüber weniger - diese hätte ich mir eher für andere als die ins Feld geführten Episoden gewünscht. Die "FSK 16" ist an mancher Stelle für mich nicht recht einsehbar - fraglos ist die Serie aber gerade wegen dieser teils kompromisslosen Art eben auch irgendwie "pur" und unverfälscht. Für zarte Gemüter ist und bleibt "Game Of Thrones" nach wie vor nicht empfehlenswert. Einsteiger sollten aber sicherlich "von vorne anfangen", in Staffel 5 wird viel an Vorwissen unterstellt. Ich gebe alle Sternchen und eine Empfehlung für Menschen, die schon Staffel 1-4 für "gut" befunden haben.
