You will pay over $110 for a 16 by 16 size set which looks exactly the same "in a magnet version." The fact that this costs only $20 makes this an outstanding value. I was searching for the largest magnetic set in and out of Amazon but ended up with this since I really don't need the magnets. This is my backup board for friends to play so they don't have to stand around waiting to play the winner on my main board (quadruple weighted set , standard size board n pieces). People complain that the pieces are too light or the board doesn't play perfectly flat. I had no problems with mine and of course the pieces are light ; what do you expect for $20 ! ? I'm here to tell you that this set is perfectly playable and nice and cheap so you can use it as a backup or main board OR even better, give it as a present. Amazing quality for such a low price. With 5 kids in a wide age range, we've gone through 3 different chess boards. Pieces always get lost, boxes always get ruined. I LOVE that this one is SO easy to clean up. If we're in a hurry the kids can just throw the pieces inside and close it up, but they actually love arranging them in their little holders. It was so nice to just throw the box in the recycle can and know the board itself was the only storage we needed. It folds up small enough that we just keep it on the bookshelf. The pieces actually look really nice, and the whole set seems much more expensive than it actually is. Great buy!

We love this set. As others have written - it is not a high-end set, but it is sturdy, perfect size. Looks nice, and as one reviewer said - the little nicks or mishaps on some of the pieces, just make them unique. But they are all good - nothing is rough. The board doesn't have any kind of coating or sealant on it - so it is the raw wood, but it looks just fine. And it folds up for travel or just putting away. There are little loops to put the pieces in, but we just put all the pieces back in the bags and store inside the box, to put away. It's quicker than using the loops and works well for us. We're still shopping for that one-of-a-kind show piece chess set, but in the meantime, we love this set, it looks nice, works well, and will be great for travel. I would recommend it to anyone. We've used it every day since it arrived. A great deal for the price. One reviewer said they were disappointed that there weren't extra Queens in the set. We keep big binder clips in our box so that we can attach it to the Pawn who becomes a Queen. It works well, and makes us smile. We have no complaints.

The 15.5” board is nicely made, out of pine and thin veneers for the playing surface. The pieces are made out of wood and are a little crude but can clearly be identified. The set is lightweight. It has a magnetic board closure but the pieces themselves are not magnetic. The pieces are held in place by individual elastics which secure them for travel. It is not a high-quality set but it is good enough when traveling. POSITIVES: • Basic chess travel set • Folds up • Pieces are secure and don’t rattle around or get lost when moved. • Playing surface is attractive for a travel set • Fairly priced NEGATIVES: o Pieces are lightweight and a little crude o Materials used are on the cheap side. o Concerned about how durable this will be CONCLUSIONS: I like a set as one to take on vacation or to keep in your game pile at the second home, air B&B or vacation place. The pieces are wood and lack a lot of detail found in finer sets. This will also make a good gift for a young player. 4 Stars RECOMMENDED

this set looks nice, feels great, and isn’t too small for my liking. The only downside is because the pieces are so light, they get tipped over easy. So if you are going to use it in a place where it could wobble, the table could get bumped into, or has any breeze whatsoever, you’ll want to spend an extra $6 and get a magnetic chess set. I got this for work, but I work outside, literally right on the beach, so the ocean breeze knocked the pieces over countless times at the most unfortunate of times.

Quality is fair. First one I ordered had a small chip of the top wood surface edge and the finish had marks in a few places on the board. Pieces are ok. The board at least fit together and lays flat. I ordered a second thinking maybe it would be better. Only one finish blemish but the board didn't lay flat enough to come together and there was a gap at one side in the middle. I'm settling for the first one I got as the set is worth the price. Can't expect too much for the price I paid. I don't use the elastic strap to hold the pieces. Too much work. I just put them back in the bags and keep them in the board folded.

Well belt board and pieces. Great storage location for the pieces when not in use.
