It seemed too good to be true- but it really works!
I was a bit skeptical that this 'pad' would actually work in keeping my cats and dogs off a couch, as it looks like an aluminum foil covered blanket. However, I knew I had to try something as a new couch was going to be coming into my life, and I didn't want it to fall victim to the epic battle of territory claiming between one cat and dog of mine that the past couch had succumbed to. It has been over a month now, and it continues to work perfectly. The quality is definitely much better than my imagined foil covered blanket. It is very crinkly, and when I first placed it on the couch I made sure to crunch the heck out of it to scare the particular cat mentioned above. Between the noise it makes being moved around (especially if the critter dared to jump onto it), the shine, and how it stiffly 'drapes' and encloses the couch, I feel very confident that there is no attraction for the pets to dare trying it out, and they haven't yet. One night I forgot to cover the couch and went to bed. I woke up in the morning, and when I saw the couch uncovered I was scared- but apparently my cat really has no desire to go on the couch, as she didn't take advantage. Thank you for this ingenious cover that keeps my couch safe!

It works for the problem cat.
UPDATE: We adopted a third cat and now 2/3 cats enjoy laying on it. We have two cats. Our female cat has a habit of peeing on the guest bed or the laundry basket if it's left out. We solved the laundry basket problem but the guest bed was something we didn't think we could fix. We have a waterproof cover so I could clean it each time she soiled it but it was becoming a daily problem. The guest room doubles as our 1 year old's play space so I was having to close the door until he wanted in there and our cat would sneak in unnoticed and pee on the bed. I considered shock mats but felt they were cruel. I bought the ssscat but it didn't always go off. I was skeptical but bought this pad. This pad is shiny side up under the bedspread. I didn't want to remove it one day and have her think it was safe to go on the bed again, which is why it's under the bedspread. She hates it. The last time she jumped on the bed was minutes after I put this under the bedspread. She walked off the bed like she had shoes on. My male cat jumps on the bed, which is fine.

Effective, durable, and reasonably priced.
We have been using the Pet Repeller Furniture Pads for several weeks and they have worked marvelously. We tried shock mats previously, but they were not big enough to cover every surface. My three cats learned to avoid those, but still got on the furniture. These furniture pads are big enough to thoroughly cover everything, so they have worked much better for us. They are also less expensive than shock mats, both initially, and long term, because they don't require a never-ending supply of batteries. The Pet Repeller Furniture Pads have also proven to be quite durable. While my cats are not walking all over them, my kids are. I figured that they would have been shredded by now, given how many times I have seen my kids step on them, but they are still in perfect condition after weeks of abuse. Even if your pets are not deterred by the mat itself (which all three of mine are), the mat would still function to protect your furniture. It is also thin and lightweight, so it is quick and easy to store when not in use. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

Effective and best viable option for deterring animals...
It's very loud, and covers our couch perfectly so serves its purpose very effectively and I would suggest anyone purchase this. I do caution anyone though, because it sort of punishes you each time you have to put it on and fold it to sit on your furniture, reminding you that your cat is a jerk and is still dictating your lives. He otherwise would be sitting on our couch and drooling over everything so this is our best solution. I love him so much and he's adorable and affectionate, but that drool...*shudders* Another tip: ensure that you've tucked this completely into all possible places on your furniture, or your cat will slip easily under it and have nice naps beneath it, as ours did/does if we aren't diligent.

Mixed results, but mostly good!
We ordered 2 of these covers for our sectional sofa, as our elderly cat has taken to weeing on the couch on the regular. We tried using pheromones, adding another litter box to the household, changing the brand of the litter, ran kidney tests to make sure she wasn't ill (all good!), & unfortunately nothing has curbed this behavior. We used washable water resistant couch covers & puppy wee pads, but eventually the smell just got to be too much, despite daily washing & sanitizing. These mylar covers have for the most part worked - the cat did wee on them the first night we had them on the couch, but that was it. I suspect she didn't like the "splashback", as this material is 100% water repellent & she also is spooked by the crinkly noises the covers make, so she hasn't been on the couch since. She also has not urinated outside of the litter boxes since, so I think she just marked the sofa as hers & decided it was a great spot to keep weeing. The only reason I say the result is mixed is because we have a younger cat who doesn't really mind walking across or sitting on these covers at all. Granted, she's not the one weeing on the couch, but a fair warning that your mileage may vary in terms of how much your cat is deterred. We just lucked out & the right cat was spooked.
