The Dark Night of the Soul

Absolutely loved this book It was so validating. Bought it few years ago and never read it. Remembered it when going through difficult time recently so I purchased it again and was so comforted by it. When student ready, teacher appears!!

The author is a Spanish mystic who explains the path to becoming a contemplative. Text is clear and organized. I found this book insightful.

Easy to understand

It was amazing

I read this maybe ten years ago, and it was not easy. St. John of the Cross goes from times of mystical ecstasy to deep, prolonged depression, back up again and down, and yet again. It is a wonderful work, but having been diagnosed with Bipolar I shortly before I read it, I wondered then, as I still do today, whether St. John suffered from manic depression as well.

This book should be required reading.

A very rich and deep classic in Catholic spirituality. For those who wish to understand the desert experience in their life this is a must. John of the Cross gives deep psychological insights.

This book can make sense of the spiritual journey in a way that resonates with the soul. I can’t say I understood all parts of it, as I found at times the style of writing a bit hard to navigate, but it was truly helpful and it is an inspired work.

One of the best spiritual books. It is equally useful for all people at every spiritual level.
