The Earth Sheltered Solar Greenhouse Book

I don't give out 5 stars very often.Mike's book is very, very good.He describes how his greenhouse plan developed, from small holes in the ground to the current result.Mike includes his mistakes, which I find extremely helpful.Mike covers related issues like pest access.I picked up a great deal of unrelated information that is valuable to me. Example: strawberry leaves contain vitamin C.The pictures and illustrations were excellent and there were plenty of them.Mike's writing is engaging.

This book arrived shrink wrapped in plastic in brand new condition and was delivered quickly. Fantastic product and seller.

This is an intriguing book with great humor and an amazing concept of using passive heat from the earth to heat your greenhouse. Lots of mistakes you won’t have to make when working through the process because the author has already made them and details out problems and successes for you. Outdated information though and his building skills were below sub par. My husband is a framer and cringed at the way he did some things in his descriptions of building. However that said, if you are on a budget and looking to save money or do things cheaply or free...and if you are working with little to no experience building, this gives you the world at your fingertips so to speak. Step by step instructions and creative possibilities to work with. Worth the read for the concept and ingenuity.

This has been a favorite book for at least 10 years and when we lost the last one, it was easy to find in Amazon. This book has a lot of good info on underground building and how to utilize nature to make your green house completely self-sufficient.

I live in Wyoming where winters get very cold (-30 F). We have a super short growing system, so I have been looking into ways to extend the season. I think the ideas in this book are fantastic, but you need to be decently handy to implement them yourself. Although my husband and I are reasonably handy, we are still a little concerned with doing this completely ourselves because you don't want to build it wrong because you could have dirt collapse down on you, but if you hire someone to help, the price goes up exponentially. We haven't implemented it yet, but I am very interested in doing so.

I just bought some land with an existing earth sheltered greenhouse and thought I would bring it back to life. This book is amazingly helpful, it is filled with hands on tips, real life examples which are simply and clearly explained (and illustrated) and is written with love. Thank you!

I ordered this book on the recommendation of Rob Roy. By the time you finish reading this book, you will like Mike Oehler. The book is well written and very entertaining -- especially the gopher stories. While entertaining, though, there's just not a lot of meat here. The contents, without the humor, could have been boiled down to a technical paper. If the price was one third what it is, that would not bother me. I have yet to see most of this information anywhere else (but it might be I'm not looking hard enough). For the price, I expected a lot more. You gotta' spread the love to those gophers.

Good instructions for any level, including novice beginner. Clear & concise. Easy to comprehend.

Excellent book, very informational, as described, easy to read and well worth the money. Have recommended to others.

There's nothing like experience to learn by. Might have to read it again just to review things that shouldn't be done or maybe to do something better to start with. You want it to work well and last forever, after all. I also don't want to have to heat it, but I want the temperature to stay warm enough all winter. Easier said than done.

Entertaining anecdotes of his antics with underground homes and greenhouses. He gives plenty of practical, cheap, and energy saving ideas. If I had some land to tinker with at the moment I'd already be trying these out.

Given patience, this book does need a bit of out of the box thinking. But once you grasp the basics, it truly works.

I really enjoyed all of the insight Mike offers from years of experience, sprinkled with personality and humor. Great buy!
