Shingles has got to be one of the most miserable afflictions known to (wo)-man, easily equal to some of the trials of Job. While suffering the itching and pain of the rash spread around my torso, I started to research what "natural" thing could I do. I read that shingles almost always happens when the arginine and lysine amino acids are out of balance with the arginine being far greater. I mentally reviewed the foods I'd been eating and realized they were all heavy in arginine ... and also the foods that have lysine in them and realized that for the past three months I was eating very little of them. Combined with some extraordinary stressors (like my adult daughter getting a cancer diagnosis and undergoing surgery, the pipes bursting in my house, and a few other crises all at once), VOILA! = Shingles. YIKES!!! I started to research lysine supplements and started to consciously eat more lysine foods. I found that people reported that mega-doses of lysine had made a big difference in managing their shingles outbreak. I found that "megadoses" is generally considered to be 1 gram of lysine multiple times a day. I learned that many people believe that liquid extracts ingested as teas get assimilated faster than swallowed capsules. I decided to get BOTH ... capsules AND extracts. I bought a 500 mg L-Lysine capsule and I found and bought this product, the Quantum Super Lysine Plus Liquid Extract. The capsules arrived first. I started to take them immediately. I also noticed a reduction in the speed with which the shingles had been spreading. The extract arrived about 5 days later within the suppliers' promised time-frame. Not mentioned in the amazon product description but very important information is what's IN the product. The extract contains Vitamin C and a "proprietary blend" of L-lysine, echinacea, shitake mushroom, propolis, gum benzoin, licorice and goldenseal. I knew in a heart-beat that it would WORK ... but how WELL??? And how much to take and how often? The blend totals of 300mg included ALL the ingredients listed so the actual lysine amount clearly was significantly less than what was in the capsules. The dosage instructions for the extract are either distressingly broad if you want something specific and want help NOW or delightfully flexible if you don't: "As a tea or aid to the diet Use 30 drops in hot or cold water, 3 to 6 times a day." Okaaaaaayyyyy .... I decided to start out with 30 drops in room temperature water. Taste isn't bad so that was okay. I did that three times the first day and didn't notice much change. Then I decided to do 60 drops into hot water and drink/sip it as a tea. I noticed relief rather quickly from the itching. I decided to make the tea with 60 drops which is about two full syringes whenever I found myself becoming more aware of the itching. This did end up being 6 times a day. The shingles stopped spreading and the itching was reduced. I continued the capsules the while ... and then ran out of capsules. This made a difference because I clearly itched more. Adding the capsules in again made the program work. I also applied organic virgin coconut oil to cool the rash areas and used Young Living's Vetiver to help control the itching. As of this writing the shingles are DEFINITELY going away. YEAH!

I have tried cold sore products before. There are some that you take internally and some that are applied topically. None of them seemed to do much for me. If I had a bad cold sore, it could last 3-4 weeks. Some that are more mild would last about 2 weeks. I read some reviews about this product, so I thought I would give it a try. I read where someone said that she found 2 droppers full was more effective than using 1 dropper full. I thought, if 2 are more effective than 1, what would happen if I used 4 droppers full. I tried this product by putting 4 droppers full in a glass of orange juice each morning, and I was amazed at how effective it was. It is difficult to estimate in days or how much it cuts the time of healing, but I would safely say that it reduced the time of healing by 50%. I think it was actually more than that, but I am being conservative in my estimate. I’m not saying everyone will experience these results; I am only saying those are the results I experienced. Then, recently, I felt a cold sore coming on. I can sense it because I start to pay more attention to the corner of my mouth almost on an unconscious level. It’s like the area becomes a little sensitive before anything really is apparent in a visual sense. I thought, why take a chance in waiting until I see the visual signs of a cold sore appearing. I took one round (4 droppers in orange juice) and the next morning the sensation went away. I cannot say for sure that a cold sore was brewing, but if it was, this took care of it. I have a cat that has feline herpes. I have been told that lysine would help her with the congestion in her lungs and the eye discharge. Unfortunately, she is not a big fan of the lysine treats or tablets. I was looking for a liquid that could be added to her food and came across this. All of the ingredients are safe for cats. While I don't care for the smell, she doesn't mind having it in her food. It seems to have improved her coat, it's glossy and smooth. I have noticed a sharp decrease in the amount of coughing and eye problems for her. I'm so glad that we found a good option for her that didn't involve a prescription eyedrop and pill. Getting her used to those options would be very difficult as she is an adult. If you have a pet that needs lysine, try this. I just put a few drops in her food and stir it up.

Helps with cold sores. I felt one coming on with the tingles and immediately took a a few drops on the site of the sensation and under my tongue on the hour for about 4 hours and the cold sore never came. Also helps when you think you’re going to get sick, take it. I even take it preventively at least once daily. I’m going to need a bigger bottle!

Not obvious from the description but contains alcohol. Would rate higher if it didn’t.

This stuff is the good stuff! I first became aware of this product several years ago. Every time I feel even the slightest cold coming on or when I'm just feeling icky, I shoot a dropper full into 8oz of water and chug it down. It doesn't taste like much - rather herbal - but really knocks a cold out before it can take hold and then I followup with a couple more doses during the day just to be certain. Excellent immune system builder. I ALWAYS keep a bottle on hand.

Ordered this to give to cats due to respiratory problems per Vet's orders. Also ordered a L-Lysine gel as a fall back as i expected this would be easier to administer. I tasted this first...good golly, I've NEVER tasted anything so horribly gross. I knew i had no chance to get casts to take this 2x daily for 10 days. Tried one cat, he took off like lightning and didn't see him for an hour. Straight into the trash from there for this product. Thankfully the gel tasted better to the cats and now they are much better too!
