Not your usual Digimon
This game is fantastic. Assuming you are going in knowing what time of game this is. I would describe it as a tactical fire emblem style rpg with a huge focus on its story. You spend most of the game reading as it's a visual novel with some choice you as a player can make to change how the story goes. This game is intended to be played more than once in order to get all of its endings. Luckily, once you beaten it once, the next time becomes easier as you carry over all of your levels and digimons. If you are a digimon fan and want more digimon while we wait for them to make more games this is a good game to pic up. I would say wait for a deal before buying it. I originally bought it on the switch when it first came out and then re bought it on the Playstation just to get the platinum trophy. If you don't like or only like digimon games like digimon world or cyber sleuth, don't buy this. You will most likely stop playing after the first few hours. This is very story focused, again visual novel. I personal love the story and keep playing just to see all of the endings. My biggest negatives are that there is no English voices, it's just japanese with English dub, and there is a limit amount of digimon. Some people's favorite digimon might not be available in the game. Last thing I didn't enjoy was how you recruited digimon. It felt like luck most of the time even when you answered correctly. My favorite parts was the story. I also enjoyed my second play when I already had some strong digimon and made the fights that were hard in the first place feel like child's play.

Game is extremely good and just what I had been waiting for as a Digimon fan
Most of the official reviews just criticize the fact that the game is a visual novel and don’t actually take any amount of effort to criticize the actually weaker aspects of the game. The story is fantastic and the TRPG combat is super fun. The story is different but just as charming as the Cyber Sleuth games. There’s a lot to love here for die hard Digimon fans like myself. Don’t listen to the people whose only complaint about the game is that it’s a visual novel.

Visual Novel, A+++
This game is excellent. I've played into chapter 9 (out of 12) before writing this review. Yes, it's a visual novel, which seems to upset a lot of people who have a crusade against reading and things that are not Fortnite. Don't let that put you off. If you are a fan of a good narrative, choice-based gameplay, or Digimon, give this game a shot. The narrative feels like Digimon Adventure written for adults. It has a mild horror feel, not appropriate for young kids (I would say PG13 at this point, YMMV with your child). The tactics gameplay feels like a simple Fire Emblem or quite a bit like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. If you want to grind up multiple monsters you'll find yourself in Free Battles quite a bit. I feel like my time spent is more 60% reading 40% battling but, again, YMMV. If you hate to read at all, don't buy this game and certainly don't review-bomb it because it isn't Cyber Sleuth 2. That's not what this game was meant to be. If you want Digimon content with a strong narrative that makes you feel EMOTIONS then give this game a shot.

Excellent Title - May Not Include Promised Guilmon Code
First off, this is an excellent title - for Digimon Fans, as well as fans of both SRPG and Visual Novel games. The story is great, gameplay is engaging, and the inclusion of multiple story paths with permanent consequences for your actions in-game is a wonderful bonus, as it gives incentives to play the game more than a single time beyond the typical "sweeping extra accomplishments." That said, my preorder copy of this game did NOT include the promised Guilmon bonus partner - this was not available on the disc, it was not offered as an immediate download, and it was not included as a code in the box, or anywhere else in the package I received. I'm talking with Bandai Namco about this, as well, but it does seem the preorder bonus should not be advertised, if it is not actually included in the package ordered. All around though, I'm very happy with my purchase of this title, and would recommend the purchase to fans of Digimon and engaging stories, alike.

A Visual Novel with Decent Combat
First off, there is a lot of dialogue and reading. It can be a turn off in the first 2 chapters, but it does get better and builds. I'm so far at the beginning of Part 5 and not only has the combat improved, but the plot is moving to Digimon adventuring - which is what makes the game exciting and great. I will say, going back to the school and exploring it several times does seem a bit droll, but once I realized this is how it plays out while having limited interactions with characters, it does make it more exciting. As far as the Guilmon and health crystal pre-order/1 month bonus from Amazon with the physical copy, I screenshot my Amazon order and emailed Bandai through their support on the website and got a response within a few days to put my code in for the PS4. I went to the PS4 store and put in code (no hyphens) and it showed up to redeem. I loaded my latest save and at the top right corner, it said Bonus Ready or something and all I had to do was hit the triangle button and Guilmon was added to my party! Along with item. I saved it and loaded a previous save and the same thing happened! So I believe you can use Guilmon on any first playthrough. Warning: I read that after you beat the game, you cannot get Guilmon in New Game+. Also, if you digivolve him, you cannot go back on your forms. Have fun and enjoy this creepy dark story with the Digimon Survive game! Be prepared to be upset, turned off by characters, and avoid spoilers online!!!

Here's my thoughts after getting the platinum
Took me 30 days to get the platinum. It took me a second to get into because the whole prologue chapter doesn't have digimon in it. Really realistic in the sense that this is what actual highschoolers would do in this situation. And really, really dark stuff comes up in the story. I like the combat. You would think it would be repetitive, but it wasn't really. There's a karma system that based on your choices will affect the story and whatnot, most importantly, it affects who Agumon evolves too. The thing is, you don't have to look it up to figure out how to get the evolution you want, and it's extremely easy to check which evolution you're heading to, which made me inadvertently choose choices that I wouldn't have made because I was really hoping for a certain evolution. So my recommendation is to do a complete first playthrough ignoring the karma system, just don't even pay attention to it. The game has multiple endings, but also seems like they could do a sequel if the wanted to, which is cool. So final score 9.5/10. There were a few of my favorite digimon that weren't in the game and some of the visual novel parts of the game lasted a little bit longer, and some of the trophies were just tedious to do. But I liked it so much I played through it 4 times to get all the endings 🤣

A Fresh Take on Digimon with Depth and Replayability
Digimon Survive offers a fresh and intriguing take on the Digimon franchise with its darker themes. The use of a visual novel system adds depth to the storytelling, and the TRPG combat, while simple, complements the experience effectively. The New Game Plus feature enhances replayability, giving you more reasons to dive back in. However, a few characters can be quite irritating, which slightly detracts from the overall experience. Despite this, it's a compelling and unique addition to the Digimon series.

Everything I Wanted
This game is absolutely wonderful! This is purely a visual novel with some tactical RPG elements. Your decisions matter and that is genuinely important for me as a player. If you love a well written story and having your decisions matter, this is an easy recommendation. Side note: I had to ask Bandai for my code for the free Guilmon, Amazon customer service was not very helpful in this matter.
