I Wasn't Just Pleasantly Surprised-- I Was Astonished!
After doing a ton of research on several 18V reciprocating saws, I stumbled across this 20V Dewalt DCS380P1 saw kit. My 64 year old right elbow gave out (tennis elbow) after using hand saws exclusively to cut down Brazilian Pepper trees in the wetlands surrounding our Southwest Florida home. I haven't used any of my chain saws because the vegetation is so dense, and the footing so uncertain, that I didn't want to chance having an accident with such a powerful tool. Lots of things can go wrong with a chain saw when used in tight quarters so I decided to be safe rather than sorry. Even though I read some raving reviews about how good this saw kit is, I decided to order two additional 20V batteries so that I would have plenty of power to get a lot done before running out of juice. I also ordered a 5 pack of highly rated pruning saw blades in order to have the best set-up possible. On with the gloves, boots, long shirt, work pants, sunscreen, insect repellent and UV hat, and then I started to cut my latest path into the wetlands. First off, let me say that this saw is well-designed and balanced, and a real pleasure to use. I made cuts at ground level, waist level, and above my head. I cut pepper trees and limbs down that ranged in diameter from 2" to 10", all of them much more quickly and easily than with my high-end hand saws. There was no strain on my arms and I always felt stable and confident. This is one lean, mean cutting machine! But the biggest surprise was the battery. The last battery powered tool I owned was a standard power drill that maybe worked for about 10 minutes before losing its charge. Because of that I really wasn't expecting the charge to last very long with this saw. But boy, was I surprised! This thing just kept on cutting. I would have to pause on occasion to move some of the limbs I cut down and I was constantly picking up all the debris deposited in our wetlands from Hurricane Charley in 2004, but I had to force myself to keep working until at least the first battery gave it up. It is very obvious that battery technology has expanded by leaps and bounds, helped no doubt by the development of more efficient batteries for cars. I wish that I had investigated buying one of these saws about six months ago. The wear and tear that I would have avoided on this worn out body would have been greatly appreciated. It only goes to show that there is always a right tool for each job--you just have to find out what it is.

Solid performance!
I started buying Dewalt 20v Max tools a few years ago. The first one was not because of the brand, it was because I needed the tool. I was so impressed with it, I began buying only Dewalt if I needed another cordless tool. This reciprocating saw is a performer, and I am sure that the next one I buy will be too.

Just What I Needed
I am not mechanically inclined and I don't have a lot of upper body strength in my opinion. I purchased this item on the recommendations of guys I worked with. I need something that can cut through some pretty hard wood in my yard which according to my brothers is not the typical use for this type of saw. For me this worked great! It cut through the salt bushes (virtually impossible to kill weeds) like butter and trees too. The saw is not very heavy and the battery lasts a long time. Much longer than a cordless chainsaw I purchased several years ago. Additionally if I buy more Dewalt cordless tools the battery is interchangeable which I really like the idea of. I have several cordless tools and their batteries are not interchangeable although they all look alike to me. I did need my son to show me how to put the blade in because I wasn't grasping the directions. Again, I'm not mechanically inclined by any stretch of the imagination. This saw is lightweight and powerful but not hard to handle. Definitely a great purchase for me!

Great for home use
Powerful saw that has a lot of versatility. Easy to load and unload blades. The case and battery make it a complete package. A second battery would be nice when I'm using it away from the house, but I knew that going this was a single battery purchase.

The battery charger failed to work on the 3rd charging
I received the reciprocating saw kit on 11/15/21. The saw was powerful enough to cut my fig tree branches and was very convenient to use. However, the battery charger stopped to work on the 3rd charging. The red light was not on after the socket was plugged in. I request the seller to replace me a new charger without extra charge. I received the new charger with $0 payment. Continue to use the saw to trim my tall fig tree. Also very happy about the power of the saw to cut the branches into sections. My happiness was broken by the failure of the saw. It stopped to work after I cut few tall branches and devided into sections. I called the Dewalt service center for help. The rep gave very good member services. Because in my area, Dewalt has no agent. The rep told me to mail the saw to their Service Center. He mailed me the label to return the saw for repair without charge. I did and mailed back the saw in mid Jan 2022. 2/2/22, I received the repaired saw and is working. Thank for the Dewalt repair services. I have to deduct the star because the products including the battery and the saw are not last long and needs replacement and repair shortly after the purchase.

Do not hesitate. Buy this kit if you're in the market for one. Now.
This saw is more powerful, lighter in weight, and far more versatile than previous generations of the Dewalt line of Sawzalls. I owned the 18 volt old school version and it was alright. Still had lots of power. But this thing is a beast. Buy quality blades and you will not even have to own a chainsaw if you live in a residential neighborhood. I took down 10" wide trees and sawed them into sections, cut up thick brush, and still had life on the battery. Buying the P1 kit is well worth the money. You get the 5Ah battery and a charger that handles the 12v and 20v max batteries. Most solid cordless tool I've owned to date. And I've been in the skilled trades and construction industry for 20 years almost. Tip: These saws only cut as well as what blades you put into them. Use name brand blades meant for the task they are labelled for. Long pruning blades for cutting trees and bushes, arched thick metal blades for cutting any kind of metal. Lenox and Bosch make the best blades on the market in my opinion.

So far so good, cuts well I’ve used it on cut wood, branches, metal pipes and it cuts through all of them with ease. Great value with the battery charger and case . It’s brushless, but for the amount I need to use it, it’s not that big of a deal for me. I almost forgot battery life is very good, never needed to charge it during an entire project.
