Gypsy Quilter hoops
I saw these at a well-known sewing site but thought they were too expensive, since I didn't know how well they would work. I found them here at Amazon for much less so decided to buy. I free-motion quilt with gloves but get hand fatigue after a few hours, so these are great to switch to, as they are quite easy to use. Moving from one spot to the next is a little more involved than by hand, and you can't work over quite as large a block or area (even with the larger one), but they worked as expected and are very useful. I think they are especially great for fine detail in very small areas.

Good grip, easier to move quilt, hands more relaxed
I have these and the small round Martelli quilting hoop and I prefer these. Much better price wish I hadn't bought the Martelli hoop. Two sizes are useful and the square shape gives more space. they grip well and are relaxing to use. I normally use gloves but find I'm using this more and more. I think a person has to commit to doing an entire quilt with one before deciding whether or not it's for them because any technique change entails a learning curve. I found I had to keep telling myself to relax my hands. Also with this hoop the grip means less pressure in the quilt to it is easier to move. Just be sure the quilt is not falling off the table edge in any direction.

Great alternative to FMQ with gloves
I really like these grippers, and that you get 2 sizes for one price. I tried a similar (round) Bernina gripper at a recent sewing expo and loved how it felt and how easy it was to move the fabric around w/o needing gloves, until I saw the price. Ouch. These grippers seem to work just as well as the Bernina branded one at a fraction of the price. For ease of moving the fabric, you'll still want to use a slider mat under the quilt sandwich. Using these grippers puts less strain on your fingers and hands when moving the fabric around. Nice to have that option.

We’re ok. Not as helpful as I was hoping it to be. But will use it some. When I was sewing towards me, it went good, but have to move them so often I get out of the rhythm of the design- if that makes sense to you. Going sideways I have to move them even more. I have a 3 yr old viking sapphire.

Good control with this item - great for free motion quilting. Much easier to stay on the patterns I use. Don't see the problem some posters had with a smaller throat on their machines. Just pick it up and move it! It's not a hoop so it's easy to reposition as you go. I do use basting spray which I would recommend on larger projects to keep quilting smooth and either purchase or make (which I did) a larger sewing surface table for supporting your project which makes free motion on a small sewing machine easier whatever way you choose to do it. In the past I used quilters' gloves but this product is much easier to use with less hand fatigue.

This sounded like a great idea
This sounded like a great idea! And I wanted to love it, but they just didn't work for me. I was looking for an option to help me maneuver baby quilts while stippling. The product is well made and does easily grip the fabric, but they are both too large to move around on my normal sewing machine. The frame keeps hitting the machine and preventing me from going where I want.

I must say I was not sure this would work but it does. I do not need quilting gloves like before. Just put this on your fabric and stitch. You move it and the fabric those not bunch up. The 2 sizes in one box is a bonus. Others are much more expensive, but these do the job very well.

Very grippy, will definitely help my quilting but I will need practice. Item arrived so quickly, the tracking system hadn’t even said out for delivery yet.
