Braille for the Sighted

This book has been so much fun for me, I just thought it would be interesting to learn about Braille and this book has made it so easy. I would really recommend it to anyone who is thinking about learning Braille. It has tons of fun activities and little tips and tricks. Fantastic beginners book. It would be nice if the embossing on the back cover was actually more to scale but if I use my pinky finger it is easier.

In 2016, USA changed the way we write braille and this book is 99% still accurate. The alphabet and the numbers stayed the same. The new code is called Unified English Braille (UEB). Page 20 of the book explains the old way of capitalizing three of more words in a row. Everything else is correct. I LOVE this book and I've bought and given away over four copies. It's fun, colorful and it does a great job of explaining the basics of braille.

This book is great for first time learners in Braille as a visual person this book is great. It has many different games and learning activities such as work search and fill in the blanks to help learn and remember Braille. I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who is first learning Braille. It doesn't have actual braille in the book except for like the cover but its great to get you started.

I know this book says Braille for the Sighted. However, I thought that one would be reading the visible letters as one felt the dots. That would be a real learning experience of Braille. But there are no raised dots in this book except on the back page. So all of the "learning activities" are simply LOOKING at the dots in a pattern. There is no actual experience of feeling the raised to experience, practice and actually learn the language. I was extremely disappointed in this book. I don't think the description makes it clear what it really is. If you want to learn ABOUT Braille, at a simplistic level, this book will serve your purpose. However, if you want to actually learn to read Braille, buy a different book. I will.

This is a clear and useful book, but I am fairly annoyed that the description didn’t make it clear I was buying a 20-page activity book for elementary schoolers. Amazon is certainly making a revival of “let the buyer beware.”

I thought this would be an awesome supplementary text to my daughter learning about Helen Keller. How neat to be able to feel Braille and learn about it right?? VERY disappointed when it arrived that there were no raised areas throughout the entire book. Don't feel like that was indicated well in the product description.

This is the perfect first book for a sighted person who wonders what Braille is all about. It teaches the Braille alphabet though games and puzzles. Although designed for young people, this 67 year old was so entranced by it that I am looking to move on to the Handbook For Learning To Read Braille By Sight, which teaches the contractions, punctuation and other notations of Grade II Braille.

Great book and good value.

I have it on good authority that this book fits the bill for anyone who is new to the concept of learning braille whilst having some ability to see still. It is well laid out, easy to read and understand; the colourful nature of the book is also something to appreciate. It includes puzzles to complete with the answers displayed at the back of the book. It has the alphabet in braille embossed on the rear cover and pictures to explain the examples that are given in the text. It appears that this book introduces the reader to braille and suggests further reading.

Straight forward first introduction.
