Fantastic Book for those looking to get out of debt!
I've heard of David Bach's book collection before but when I saw his book I figured I'd give it a read. This book talks about debt, which many Americans are facing today, I have not implemented his strategies as of yet, but coming this time next year I'll be putting all his ideas into play when I have to start paying my student loans. I think this is a great read for anyone who is or will be struggling with debt and wants to get out.

Great Refresher.....
Starting the New Year off right by using this great refresher.. This guy is insightful and very knowledgeable in the finance area. I paid $3.99 including shipping (with tax $4.13 total), how can you really go wrong? There are lots of critics about the book out there, I thought this book had some good, do-it-yourself suggestions on how to be pro-active and buckle down and get financially savvy with your future. I invest in a 401k, but if there are helpful tips to make better decisions I want to know about them. Buy it used , read it and (do what I am doing) pass it on.

Back on track
The Automatic Millionaire was great and helped me immensely. However, over the years I both strayed and became too comfortable with my financial plan. David's Automatic Millionaire Homeowner seemed to repeat ideas from past books, but had information that was useful, as did Start Over Finish Rich, but really didn't grab me. But Debt Free for Life is in the spirit of The Automatic Millionaire and has reignited my focus and has some great new ideas! I highly recommend it!

Misses the Mark......
At some point David Bach has become a brand in addition to an author. As with most brands, there are many income producing cogs in a complex machine. He directs readers to his website and Facebook page dozens of times; he touts his Debt Wise Plan, a collaborative business venture with Equifax, as a necessity to getting out of debt which makes him money and will cost readers $14.95 a month; he references his astoundingly successful Finish Rich series an innumerable and aggravatingly number of times; when you're a wildly successful brand I think your team is less hesitant to offer constructive criticism. The "meat" of this book is towards the end. Bach covers in depth time barred debt (statute of limitations applies so creditors cannot legally collect) replete with graphs that highlight different state laws. (Chapter 11); Bach touches on how to find your "Lost Money" -he offers tons of sites beyond the atypical state Treasurer offices to claim your unclaimed property (money). (Chapter 16); Mortgage Debt, the book addresses the importance of retiring all debt, including mortgage debt, Bach reiterates his suggestion of paying your mortgage every two weeks, how to determine if re-financing is a good option for you. (Chapter 9). The critical and principal difference between this book and The Automatic Millionaire is the passion, inspiration, speaking to the psychological reasons and barriers why people mindlessly squander their hard earned income servicing their debt in monthly payments instead of delaying immediate gratification and pursuing their lifelong dreams of retirement, travel, sending children to college debt-free. When I read the Automatic Millionaire, I actually cried I was so moved. This book seems to have been written in a detached style. Everyone knows how to pay off debt and build wealth. It's not just about the numbers, it's about your goals, your passion, your dreams, what's driving you. It's about creating the life you want, the life you crave, being intentional about your decisions.......In that sense Bach truly missed the mark.

I've read a number of David Bach's books including Smart Women Finish Rich and Automatic Millionnaire. I have made dramatic changes to my spending habits and have significantly improved my savings pot. His Debt Free for Life Book clear direction for paying down debt. I've applied his methods alongside the Automatic Millionnaire methods and I'm seeing amazing results. Amazing how small daily payments can add up over just a few months, let alone a couple of years. If only I had known about David Bach's books 20 years ago, we'd have financial freedom by now, no doubt about it. I'm in my early 40s and on a much healthier financial path now. I'll be teaching our children these habits so they don't have to learn the hard way like I have. Better late than never. His books are an absolute must-read, for anyone who wishes to improve their personal finances. Read all of his books!!!
