A Classic: Solving Murders For 50 Years
Clue is one of those transcendent games that's maintained it's viability for over 50 years. Why? It still feels fresh and is flat-out fun to play. Here's a quick synopsis for the unfamiliar: There's been a murder at the mansion and you're a character in a race to figure out who did it, what weapon they used, and which room the murder occurred in. Be the first to get your accusation right and you win the game. The suspect, weapon, and room combo changes every game through a brilliantly simple process involving cards and a CONFIDENTIAL case file envelope. It takes about 5 minutes to set up and usually between 20 - 40 minutes to play. Clue can be played with as few as 2 people, but 3 - 6 is ideal as it adds layers to uncovering clues (without increasing the complexity). The game states it's appropriate for ages 8 and up, and my 8-year-old understands the concepts well enough to have lots of fun and often be competitive (if I leave my cut-throat self at the door). The learning curve for this game is really quick, especially if you have a seasoned player helping explain the rules. If not, don't worry. You'll be solving murders in no time. The "Classic Edition" bills itself as having the "Original Suspects, Rooms, & Weapons". (There have been a few updated editions released that included extra weapons and rooms.) If you grew up on Clue or are familiar with editions released prior to 1990, this will very likely be the format you're familiar with. The character pawns are stained wood and all weapons are metallic. The only difference I detected from my 1980s edition was the artwork on the cards. It looks as though the manufacturer resurrected the original 1949 artwork as well, giving the game a very classic, whodunit-y feel. All in all, the stellar gameplay remains the same. In addition to rating fun and durability at 5-stars, I gave Clue's educational value a 4-star rating. Why? This game effortlessly teaches logic and deductive reasoning. It may seem funny to be wholeheartedly recommending a game that centers around a murder as a wholesome family-friendly activity, but oddly enough, it is. The "murder" aspect of the game is very downplayed, almost an afterthought. The entire fun and point of the game comes from the discoveries of the "who", the "where", and the "what" details. If you're looking for a fun board game to add to the collection, or relive some fond game-playing memories, I can't recommend Clue highly enough. And take it from me: Clue is best played on a dark and stormy night... ;-)

Favorite Edition and Board
We have several editions of Clue and love them all, as each edition is slightly different with characters, back story, door positions and layout. The original is always the best, though, as this one proves. My favorite part is that it's a bifold board, my biggest beef with other editions is that they slice the board up one side and fold it 4 ways, and it never lies quite right. This version sticks to what a game board should be, simply folded in half. I also like the "one die, more doors" layout better than the newer versions that have 2 dice, less doors, more dead ends that we end up not visiting. Weapons are all metal, even the rope, pawns are light but nice, and the cards are nice but not plastic coated quality. Overall an excellent buy and great addition to our Clue games collection.

Great gift for teenage grandson
Our early teen grandson learned to play CLUE at our house but wanted his own set to play with friends and family members. This set is just like our decades old one. Artwork slightly different but well done , appropriate and attractive. The game arrived on time and in good condition

Great game for the whole family
My husband ordered this for our 9 year old son after he had played it at a friend's house and wanted it. I asked my hubs to please not order it bc we already have so many board games that they don't play with, but, alas, he didn't listen to me and ordered it anyway. :0 Well...thank God he ordered it bc my son loves it! He has been playing it often with our other son and with us all as a family. It's such a great game-a blast from the past. Positives: --problem solving skills so it makes a kid think a little bit --the mystery of it all is very fun for them --the little pieces like the candlestick, pipe, etc.. are fun to use while playing Negative: --you definitely have to think for this. It's not like Candy Land or Trouble...it requires a little more thought but a great game

A little Nostalgia please
Though I have not opened this set yet, I can say that I loved it as a kid. We do play board games in our family and I have one youngster that is developmentally delayed so we have to find things that she can manage, that will play fast enough not to make her antsy and easy enough for her to do on her own while still having enough suspense to keep her interested in. As I remember this game myself and my many cousins of various ages found this game a great deal of fun. Because the classic board has a few more items in it than the more modern version I thought it would also be an opportunity to teach some "terms" now outdated. Like what is a billiard room, a conservatory, etc. A little history of culture is a bit interesting, and my granddaughters have a collection of Barbie dolls that are dressed in period costumes that will also lend themselves to that discussion. And surely it will take grandmother back to some golden memories of her own (that would be me).

Love! To be honest
Love! To be honest, I didn't buy the game to play it. lol I just wanted the updated board. I played with the 1972 version growing up. I remember it fondly. It was my favorite game of all time. I currently own a version from the 1980s or 90s. It's nice, but I wanted the latest one. The pieces are plastic, the colors are vibrant. I'm not crazy about the looks of the characters. I remember Miss Scarlet as Asian and brunette not blonde. That annoys me, and the rope is metal like the other weapons, instead of being white plastic, like some previous versions. But since I don't plan on playing, it's okay. The board is gorgeous. :)
